Windermere - Temporary Road Closures due to Utility Works
What is happening?
WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (U5532 AMBLESIDE AND BROAD STREET BACK STREET, WINDERMERE) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF ALL TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable utility works to be carried out (“the Works”), Westmorland and Furness Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit all traffic (i.e. vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists), from proceeding along those sections of the following roads:
(i) U5532, Ambleside, from its junction with the A591, extending in a southerly direction for approx. 400 metres.
Alternative Route for North Bound Traffic: via the unrestricted section of the U5532, Under Loughrigg Road, A593, Rothay Road, Compston Road, Rydal Road and the A591.
Alternative Route for South Bound Traffic: via the A591, Rydal Road, Market Place, Lake Road (A591), Wansfell Road, Rothay Road (A593), Borrans Road, A593, Under Loughrigg Road and the unrestricted section of the U5532.
Duration: From 7th January 2026 for approx. 3 weeks (Ref: TTROW/16683)
(ii) Broad Street Back Street, Windermere, from a point approx. 70 metres north west of its junction with Woodland Road, extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 35 metres.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of Broad Street Back Street (U5745), Broad Street and Woodland Road.
Duration: From 2nd February 2026 for approx. 3 days (Ref: TTROW/16894)

The Order will come into operation on 7th January 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required as detailed above, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
