What is happening?

WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL

(VARIOUS ROADS, CARMEL

(CONSOLIDATION OF TRAFFIC REGULATIONS) ORDER 2025

  1. Westmorland and Furness Council hereby give notice that on 2 December 2025 it made the above Order under Sections 1(1) and 2(1) to (4), 32, 35, 35A, 38, 45, 46, 47, 49, 51, 53 and 64 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

  2. The Order will come into operation on 11 December 2025 and its effect will be to make changes to parking restrictions in the following locations within Cartmel Village: -

i) Market Square: From permit holders or short stay parking 24 hours 1 hour to no waiting at any time (double yellow lines); and

ii) Market Square: From loading bay 8am – 6pm 1 hour to loading bay 8am – 6pm; and

iii) Cavendish Street: From loading bay 8am – 6pm 1 hour to loading bay 8am – 6pm;

iv) Devonshire Square: From short stay 8am – 6pm Mon – Sat 1 hour, 8am – 6pm, Sun 2 hours to no waiting any time (double yellow lines); and

v) Devonshire Square: From short stay parking 8am – 6pm Mon – Sat 1 hour, 8am – 6pm, Sun 2 hours to permit holders or short stay parking 8am – 6pm Mon – Sat 1 hour, 8am – 6pm Sun 2 hours; and

vi) Devonshire Square: From loading bay 8am – 6pm 1 hour to loading bay 8am – 6pm; and

vii) Aynsome Road: Extension to no waiting at any time (double yellow lines).

  1. Full details of the Order, together with plans showing the lengths of road concerned, and a statement of the Council’s reasons for making the Order, may be: -

    (i) viewed on the Council’s website using the following link: –;

    (ii) on deposit at Kendal Town Hall, Highgate, Kendal, LA9 4RQ; and

    (iii) at the offices of the undersigned; and

    (iv) may otherwise be obtained by emailing TROconsultation@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk

    4. If you wish to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or any instrument made there under has not been complied with in relation to the Order, you may within six weeks of 2 December 2025 apply to the High Court for this purpose.
