What is happening?

TRAFFIC CALMING PROPOSALS 2025
South Tyneside Council proposes under Sections 90A and 90C of the Highways Act 1980 and the Highways (Road Humps) Regulations 1999 to undertake the following: Install traffic calming (both speed humps within the meaning of the Highways Act 1980) consisting of speed cushions on Monkton Lane.
The proposed traffic calming will consist of a raised surface 75mm above the existing carriageway.
The proposed locations are as follows in the below schedules:
Schedule 1 – Speed Cushions (1.7m W x 4.0m L)
Monkton Lane, Jarrow
From a point 60m West of its
junction with Cheviot Road.
The traffic calming is necessary to reduce traffic speeds.
Details of these proposals may be inspected from Monday to Friday
during normal office hours at the Council’s Legal Services Section at the address below.
If you wish to raise an objection, express support or make any other observations about these proposals,you must make them in writing at the address below (addressed for the attention of Traffic & Road Safety/ ref (RH/FTRS02/2025) by 29 12 2025. Any objections must specify the grounds on which they are made.
