York - Temporary Road Closures due to Maintenance and Infrastructure Works

What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Thursday, 04 December 2025 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2) & (3). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (4), (5), (6), (7) & (8).
(1) KEBLE CLOSE, BISHOPTHORPE
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Keble Close, York between its junction with Lamplugh Crescent and a location 102 metres east of said junction (closed road) during the period when footway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0730hrs on Monday, 08 December 2025 and ending at 1600hrs on Friday, 12 December 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0730hrs and 1600hrs each day of the works period (excluding weekends).
An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(2) DALE STREET, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Dale Street, York between the projected south-western boundaries of property no’s 60 & 68 (closed road) during the period when water supply works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Tuesday, 09 December 2025 and ending at 1800hrs on Wednesday, 10 December 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that said works can be carried out safely.
An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained.
(3) NABURN LANE, DEIGHTON, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Naburn Lane, Deighton, York between its junction with A19 York Road and a location 476 metres west of said junction (closed road) during the period when water supply works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 10 December 2025 and ending at 2000hrs on Tuesday, 16 December 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via A19 York Road, Naburn Lane, York Road, Moor Lane. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(4) BLAKE STREET, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Blake Street, York between its junctions with Duncombe Place and Stonegate (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0730hrs on Monday, 05 January 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 06 March 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0730hrs and 1700hrs for the works period except for a two-week period when the road will be closed 24hrs a day for highway resurfacing purposes. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Museum Street, Lendal Bridge, Rougier Street, Low Ousegate, Spurriergate, Coney Street, St Helens Square. Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(5) NORTH LANE, HUNTINGTON, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on North Lane, Huntington, York between its junctions with Strensall Road and Cotswold Way (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Monday, 05 January 2026 and ending at 1430hrs on Tuesday, 06 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0930hrs and 1400hrs for each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via A1237, Strensall Road. Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(6) BACK LANE SOUTH, WHELDRAKE
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Back Lane South, Wheldrake between its junction with Main Street and a location 70 metres south-east of said junction (closed road) during the period when development works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0730hrs on Monday, 05 January 2026 and ending at 1630hrs on Saturday, 14 February 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Low Well Park, Main Street. Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(7) POTTERY LANE, STRENSALL
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Pottery Lane, Strensall between a location 245 metres west of its junction with Sheriff Hutton Road and a location 170 metres north-west of its junction with Forest Lane (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Monday, 05 January 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Friday, 09 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Sheriff Hutton Road, Well Lane, Carr Lane. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(8) AMY JOHNSON WAY, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Amy Johnson Way, York between its junction with Kettlestring Lane and a location 38 metres north-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Tuesday, 06 January 2026 and ending at 1600hrs on Wednesday, 07 January 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Kettlestring Lane. Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
