What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL

(BRIDLEWAY NO.138042 IN THE PARISH OF WETHERAL) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS, HORSES AND CYCLISTS) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that because of the likelihood of danger to the public as a result of sink holes in the surface of the right of way (bridleway) and to enable Network Rail and Cumberland Council to carry out subsequent investigation and repair works (“the Works”), Cumberland Council has made an Order the effect of which is to prohibit pedestrians, horses and cyclists from proceeding along an approx. 610m length of Public Bridleway No. 138042 in the Parish of Wetheral between grid references 347689 551542, (near Wreayside Cottage) and 347344 551202 (junction with footpath No. 138043).

There is no suitable alternative route available for pedestrians, horses or cyclists.

This follows an emergency notice dated 10 November 2025.

The Order will come into operation on 1 December 2025 and may continue in force for a period of up to six months from that date and as when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
