What is happening?

NORTH NORTHAMPTONSHIRE COUNCIL

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 14

THORPE MALSOR/CRANSLEY)
(TEMPORARY CLOSURE) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that North Northamptonshire Council intend, not less than seven days from the date of this Notice, to make an Order the effect of which will be to prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along those lengths of Public Footpaths HC3 and GC6 (Part) in Thorpe Malsor/Cransley as specified below. Private access to land or premises adjacent to the said lengths of footpaths are unaffected.

RIGHTS OF WAYS TO WHICH RESTRICTION APPLIES: The route to be closed starts on Public Footpath HC3 in the parish of Thorpe Malsor at point A on the map at National Grid Reference (NGR) SP 483346 279028. The route travels generally south along HC3 to the Parish boundary where it continues as GG6 for a total distance of 1246 metres to point B on the map at (NGR) SP 483306 278051. The route to be closed is shown by a solid black line on the map between points A-B.

REASONS FOR RESTRICTION: The restriction is required in the interest of health and safety. Environment Agency require modification to Cransley Reservoir dam crest. This involves the installation of a 0.50m high board wall on the footpath side of the northern dam fence. This will narrow the footpath by no more than 300-400mm (average width ~ 2m)

PERIOD OF CLOSURE: The Order will come into effect on 1st January 2026 and will continue in force for a period of six months. An application may be made for the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport for this Order to be extended if this proves necessary. However, the restriction specified will have effect only at such times and to such extent as is indicated by the display of notices.

ALTERNATIVE ROUTE: The alternative route starts at Point B on the map at National Grid Reference (NGR) SP 483306 278051. The route travels East for approximately 130 metres to Point C on the map at (NGR) SP 483426/278101. The route travels in a Northern direction for approximately 980m to Point D on the map at (NGR) 483648 278956. The route travels West for 312m back to Point A on the map at (NGR) 483346 279028.
