M27 AND M275 MOTORWAYS (PORTSMOUTH)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways intends to make an Order on the M27 and the M275 Motorways in the Unitary Authority of the City of Portsmouth, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on, or in the vicinity of, the road.
The effect of the Order would be to authorise the overnight closure of: -
1. the road leading to the southbound carriageway of the M275 from its diverge point with the road linking the A3/A27 crossroads with the westbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 12 (A3/A27);
2. the road connecting the eastbound carriageway of the M27 to the link road in 1. above;
3. the road connecting the westbound carriageway of the M27 to the southbound carriageway of the M275 at Junction 12 (M275);
4. the southbound carriageway of the M275 between M27 at Junction 12 and the boundary with the City of Portsmouth network;
5. the northbound carriageway of the M275 between the boundary with the City of Portsmouth network and the diverge with the link roads connecting from the M27 at Junction 12;
6. the road connecting to the eastbound carriageway of the M27 from the northbound carriageway of the M275 at Junction 12 (M275);
7. the road connecting to the westbound carriageway of the M27 from the northbound carriageway of the M275 at Junction 12 (M275); and
8. the road connecting from the link road in 7. above, to its merge point with the road connecting from the eastbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 12 (M275).
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake maintenance works, auditing and inspections carried out by the City of Portsmouth.
The duration of each closure would vary depending on the nature of the maintenance work being undertaken on each occasion. The programme of works would start on or after 2nd January 2026. The overnight closures would be in operation between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period).
The Order would come into force on 2nd January 2026 and remain in force until 18th December 2026.
Traffic affected by the closures would be diverted via other junctions of the M27 or by using the A3 and the A397. The diversion in operation would vary according to the closure in force, and the diversion roads listed above are the agreed routes, but these may change depending on local conditions.
The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
