Lowestoft, Temporary Road Closures Due To Maintenance Works
What is happening?
NATIONAL HIGHWAYS
Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 -Section 4(1) And 14(1)(A) And (C), And (4) The A47 Trunk Road (Wansford, City Of Peterborough To Necton, Norfolk) (Norwich, Norfolk) And (Acle, Norfolk To Lowestoft, Suffolk) - (Temporary Prohibition Of Traffic) Order 202
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (a) intends to make an Order on the A47 Trunk Road in the City of Peterborough and the counties of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, to allow maintenance works to be carried out in safety. The duration of each closure would vary depending on the nature of the maintenance work being undertaken on each occasion. The programme of works would start on or after 5th January 2026 and be completed by 23rd December 2026.
The effect of the Order would be to:
(a) Authorise, in phases, the overnight closure (20:00 – 08:00) along various lengths of the A47 between Wansford Interchange and 20 metres south of Bascule Bridge in Lowestoft;
(b) authorise the closure of:
(i) various slip roads leading to and from the above length of the A47;
(ii) the laybys on the above lengths of the A47;
(iii) the gaps in the central reservation on the above length of the A47.
During the closures traffic would be diverted via: junctions of the A47 and local roads.

The closures (which would not apply to emergency service, traffic officer, works or winter maintenance vehicles), and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs.
The Order would come into force on 29th December 2025 and remain in force until 23rd December 2026.
