Essex - Temporary Road Closures due to Maintenance and Utility Works
What is happening?
Essex County Council
(Hawk Hill, Rettendon) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic & Introduction of a Clearway) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order:
1. To temporarily close that length of Hawk Hill, Rettendon, in the City of Chelmsford, from its junction with A130 New Bypass Roundabout to its junction with Hawk Lane a distance of approximately 570m.
2. To temporarily introduce a ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping’ in the above length of road for the duration of the closure only.
The Essex County Council (Chelmsford City) (Prohibition of Waiting, Loading and Stopping) and (On Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement Area) Consolidation Order 2019** will be temporarily amended to include the temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping at Any Time’ restriction and any other waiting restrictions and loading and unloading provisions as specified in this order. All other restrictions and exemptions contained in the order will continue to apply during the period of the closure only.
The closure/clearway is scheduled to commence on 5th January 2026 for 6 nights – (20:00 – 05:00), or where stated on a valid permit (EP201EH2395544 – Essex County Council). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed one week in advance. The closure/clearway is required for the safety of the public and workforce while cleaning existing signage and vegetation clearance works are undertaken by Essex County Council.
An alternative route is available via Hawk Hill, Chelmsford Road, A1245, A130 New Bypass Roundabout and vice versa.
The Order will come into effect on 4th December 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Holtynge/Oakleighs, South Benfleet) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order:
1. To temporarily close that length of Holtynge, South Benfleet, in the Borough of Castle Point, from its junction with Merton Road for a distance of approximately 230m in a south easterly then southerly direction.
2. To temporarily close that length of Oakleighs, South Benfleet, in the Borough of Castle Point, from its junction with Holtynge for a distance of approximately 40m in a north easterly direction.
The closures are scheduled to commence on 7th January 2026 for 39 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30006495518 & EC30027781016 – UK Power Networks). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one week in advance. The closures are required for the safety of the public and workforce while UK Power Networks install new HV and LV cables.
An alternative route is available via Clifton Avenue, Merton Road and vice versa.
The Order will come into effect on 4th December 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(London Road, Bowers Gifford) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order:
To temporarily close that length of London Road, Bowers Gifford in the Borough of Basildon, from its junction with Sadlers Farm Roundabout to a distance of approximately 65m in a north westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 5th January 2026 for 1 night – (20:00 – 04:00), or where stated on a valid permit (EP20150388685 – Essex County Council). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while roadworks are undertaken by Essex County Council.
An alternative route is available via B1464, A132, A13 and vice versa.
The Order will come into effect on 4th December 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Stock Road, Billericay) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order:
To temporarily close that length of Stock Road, Billericay in the Borough of Basildon, from a point approximately 60m north of its junction with Crown Road for a distance of approximately 40m in a north easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 8th January 2026 for 1 night (20:00 - 05:00), or where stated on a valid permit (EN014M13263 – Essex And Suffolk Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while box repair works are undertaken by Essex and Suffolk Water.
An alternative route is available via Stock Road, B1007, A12, A130, A132, A129, A176, Stock Road and vice versa.
The Order will come into effect on 4th December 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Beeches Road, Rawreth) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order:
To temporarily close that length of Beeches Road, Rawreth in the District of Rochford, from a point approximately 470m south west then north west of its junction with Highlands Road for a distance of approximately 95m in a north westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 8th December 2025 for 2 days, or where stated on a valid permit (BC4101001WGP0242R – Openreach). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and the workforce while pole replacement works are undertaken by Openreach.
An alternative route is available via Beeches Road, Watery Lane, Hullbridge Road, Rawreth Lane, Chelmsford Road, Beeches Road and vice versa.
The Order came into effect on 20th November 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
