NOTICE OF MODIFICATION ORDER SECTION 53 OF THE WILDLIFE AND COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1981

STAFFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL

DEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT FOR THE NEWCASTLE UNDER LYME BOROUGH AND THE STAFFORD BOROUGH

Staffordshire County Council (Addition of a bridleway from Bent Lane to PF 58 Swynnerton and the Upgrading of PF58 Swynnerton, PF8 Whitmore & PF4 Chapel & Hill Chorlton) Modification Order 2025

The above Order made on 18th November 2025 if confirmed as made, will modify the Definitive Map and Statement for the area by upgrading to bridleway a length of footpath in Chapel and Hill Chorlton Parish (footpath no.4), Whitmore Parish (footpath no.8) and Swynnerton Parish (footpath no.58)

In Chapel and Hill Chorlton Parish, in the borough of Newcastle under Lyme, commencing at point A on the map NGR 381354,339230, approximately 87 metres northwest of Chorlton Mill at the eastern end of the public road known as “Mill Lane” and its junction with footpath no.2. Proceeding in a generally north north easterly direction for approximately 154 metres, beginning with an approximate width of 8 metres and soon diminishing to a width of approximately 4.6 metres, to point B on the map, NGR 381404,339374, the parish boundary with Whitmore Parish.

And then, in Whitmore Parish in the borough of Newcastle under Lyme, proceeding with a general width of 5 metres in a generally north easterly direction for approximately 43 metres across the West Coast Mainline Railway via an overbridge to point C on the map NGR 381442,339389 the parish and district boundary.

And then, in Swynnerton Parish in the borough of Stafford, proceeding in a generally east
south easterly direction for approximately 102 metres with a general width of 4.7 metres to
its terminus at public footpath no.10 Swynnerton Parish, point D on the map NGR
381537,339352.

The addition of a length of bridleway in Swynnerton Parish.

Commencing at point D on the map NGR 381537,339352 and proceeding in a generally north easterly direction for approximately 190 metres, with a width of no less than 3 metres, to its terminus on the west side of Bent Lane approximately 65 metres south of “Shelton under Harley Farm” (point E on the map NGR 381712,339434).

A copy of the Order, the Order Map and explanatory statement may be seen free of charge at the offices of Newcastle Under Lyme Borough Council, Castle House, Barracks Road, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, ST5 1BL and Stafford Borough Council, Civic Centre, Riverside, Stafford, ST16 3AQ and at Staffordshire County Council Reception, Staffordshire Place 1, Tipping Street, Stafford, ST16 2LP during normal working hours, Mondays to Fridays. Copies of the Order and the Map may be purchased.

Any representation or objection relating to the Order must be sent in writing to the Director for Finance and Resources, Staffordshire County Council, 2 Staffordshire Place, Tipping Street, Stafford, ST16 2DH, or legalrowallocations@staffordshire.gov.uk not later than 20 January 2026 quoting Ref No LSU/LJ/008657 and applicants are requested to state the grounds on which it is made. Any representation or objection may be made available to interested parties to view at the Council’s offices on request.

If no representations or objections are duly made to the Order, or if any so made are withdrawn, Staffordshire County Council instead of submitting the Order to the Secretary of State may confirm the Order. If the Order is submitted to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, any representations or objections which have been duly made and not withdrawn will be sent with it.
