What is happening?

(Papermill Cottages Footbridge, Public Rights of Way, Footpath No. 28 Urpeth Parish, Beamish) (Temporary Footpath/Footbridge Closure) Order 2025
The above-named Order made by the Council on 23/5/2025, under section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, and which became operational on 3/6/2025 has been continued in force from 3/12/2025, as approved by the Secretary of State for Transport, until 3/12/2027 or until completion of the works, whichever is the earlier. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on a 32 metre length of Footpath Number 28 that extends northwards from Footpath Number 29 across Papermill Cottages footbridge to safeguard the public due to the footbridge being deemed unsafe to use.
Throughout the period of closure, a diversion will be from the southern side of the closure, from Footpath Numbers 28/29, south onto Footpath 27 then west and turning north west onto Footpath 25 and north onto Footpath 12 to Beamish Footbridge, onto public rights of way within Gateshead leading to the northern side of the closure and vice versa.
