THE A1(M) MOTORWAY
(JUNCTION 58 TO JUNCTION 59)
(TEMPORARY 50 MILES PER HOUR SPEED RESTRICTION)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the A1(M) Motorway, in County Durham, to enable bridge survey works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start on Wednesday 3 December 2025 for 2 nights, or until completed.
The effect of the Order will be to impose, between 8pm and 6am, at times during the works, a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the A1(M):
(i) northbound carriageway from
400 metres north of Burtree Lane
underbridge northwards for a distance
of 1500 metres;
(ii) southbound carriageway from 260 metres
north of the entry slip road at Junction
59 (Aycliffe Interchange) southwards for a
distance of 1400 metres; and
(iii) southbound entry slip road at Junction 59.
Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles).

The Order comes into force on 2 December 2025 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
