Bridleway No. 37, East Stanley, Stanley - Temporary Bridleway Closure due to Commercial Development Works

What is happening?

THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF DURHAM

(PUBLIC BRIDLEWAY NO. 37 SOUTH OF A693, EAST STANLEY, STANLEY PARISH)

(TEMPORARY BRIDLEWAY CLOSURE) ORDER 2025

The Council on 21/11/2025 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all traffic from proceeding on the following length of bridleway. A 200 metre length of Bridleway No. 37 Stanley Parish that extends southwards from A693 High Street/Chester Road, Stanley to enable new commercial development works to be undertaken. An alternative route will be available to traffic from the southern side of the closure.

Pedestrian traffic

a. Easterly via the footways and footpaths of Arnold Close and Stanley Court, then north on the footpath of Betjeman Court and west along the footway of A693 Chester Road, and

b. Westerly via the footpaths of Burns Close and Kneller Close, then north on Durham North Academy Footpath Link (Footpath No. 222 Stanley Parish) then north along Slaidburn Road and east along the footway of A693 High Street.

Cyclists/equestrians from Stevenson Road easterly along Stevenson Road and Sitwell Road, northerly on Humber Hill and westerly on Noel Street and continuing west on A693 Chester Road to the northern side of the closure and vice versa. The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The proposed works are to commence from 1/12/2025 and are anticipated to be completed in 6 months. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
