Brighton and Hove, Multiple Traffic Notices, Temporary Road Closures due to Environmental Cleansing and Litter-Picking Works

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways intends to make an Order on the A23 and A27 Trunk Roads in the Unitary Authority of the City of Brighton and Hove, under Section 14(1)(c) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because environmental works are proposed to be executed on, or in the vicinity of, the road.
The effect of the Order would be to: -
authorise the periodic phased overnight closure of –
(a) all slip and link roads connecting to or from the A23 at:
i) Muddleswood Junction (B2117);
ii) Donkey Island Junction;
iii) Dale Hill (A281);
iv) Pyecombe Interchange (A273); and
v) Patcham Interchange (A27);
(b) all slip and link roads connecting to or from the A27 at:
i) Hangleton Interchange (A293);
ii) Devil’s Dyke Interchange (A2038);
iii) Patcham Interchange (A23);
iv) Hollingbury Interchange;
v) Coldean Interchange (A270); and
vi) Falmer Interchange (B2123);
(c) all bus stops adjacent to:-
i) both carriageways of the A23 between the A23/A27 London Road Roundabout (“Black Rabbit Roundabout”) and Muddleswood Junction; and
ii) both carriageways of the A27 between Hangleton Interchange (A293) and Falmer Interchange (B2123) including the on-slip at Coldean Interchange (A270).
authorise the periodic phased 24-hour closure of all lay-bys adjacent to:-
(a) both carriageways of the A23 between the A23/A27 London Road Roundabout (“Black Rabbit Roundabout”) and Muddleswood Junction (B2117); and
(b) both carriageways of the A27 between Hangleton Interchange (A293) and Falmer Interchange (B2123).
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors working on behalf of the Unitary Authority quoted above undertake periodic litter-picking and environmental cleansing.
The duration of each closure would vary depending on the nature of the maintenance work being undertaken on each occasion. The programme of works would start on or after 2nd January 2026.
The overnight closures would be in operation between 20:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). Please consult the National Highways website for details of closure times.
The Order would come into force on 2nd January 2026 and remain in force until 18th December 2026.
Traffic affected by slip and link road closures of the link road would be diverted to the next available junction as appropriate and return.
The temporary closures and diversion route would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works periods.
