What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 4(1) AND 14(1)(A) AND (C), AND (4)

THE A1 TRUNK ROAD (STOTFOLD TO SANDY, BEDFORDSHIRE) AND (WYBOSTON, BEDFORDSHIRE TO WOTHORPE, CITY OF PETERBOROUGH) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 202_

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited(a) intends to make an Order on the A1 Trunk Road in the Counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and the City of Peterborough, to allow maintenance works to be carried out in safety.

The duration of each closure would vary depending on the nature of the maintenance work being undertaken on each occasion. The programme of works would start on or after 5 January 2026 and be completed by 23 December 2026.

The effect of the Order would be to:

(a) authorise the overnight closure

(20.00 – 08.00) of the A1 at various locations between Stotfold and Sandy,

and Wyboston and Wothorpe;

(b) authorise the closure of:

(i) all slip roads leading to and from the above length of the A1;

(ii) the laybys on the above lengths of the A1;

(iii) the gaps in the central reservation on the above length of the A1.

During the closures traffic would be diverted via junctions of the A1 and local roads.

The closures (which would not apply to emergency service, traffic officer, works or winter maintenance vehicles), and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs.

The Order would come into force on

29 December 2025 and remain in force until

23 December 2026.
