M1 Motorway (Between Junctions 15 and 30) - Temporary Prohibition of Traffic

THE M1 MOTORWAY (BETWEEN JUNCTIONS
15 AND 30) AND CONNECTING ROADS
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M1 Motorway, in West Northamptonshire, North Northamptonshire, and in the Counties of Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, to enable maintenance and improvement works, to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to take place overnight between 19:00 and 06:00 (07:00 on Saturday and Sunday mornings) during a period starting on Friday 2 January 2026 and ending on Wednesday 23 December 2026.

The effect of the Order will be to impose prohibitions on the following lengths of carriageway:

(i)   the northbound carriageway of the M1 from its junction with the exit slip road at Junction 15, to its junction with the entry slip road at Junction 30;

(ii)  the southbound carriageway of the M1 from its junction with the entry slip road at Junction 30, to its junction with the entry slip road at Junction 15;

(iii) the circulatory carriageway of the roundabout junction of the M69, the A5460 and the M1 Junction 21 slip roads;

(iv) any slip road or link road leading to and from the lengths of carriageway described in (i) and (ii) above;

(v)  a length of Waterloo Lane, from a point 138 metres north of its junction with the A609 Nottingham Road, to and including its bridge over the M1 at Trowell.; and

(vi) any emergency refuge area adjacent to the lengths of carriageway described in (i) and (ii) above.

During any road closures traffic will be diverted via alternative junctions of the M1 Motorway and local roads. These diversions will be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the area.

The duration of each prohibition will vary depending upon the nature of the work being undertaken on each occasion.

The prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works, winter maintenance, or traffic officer vehicles. The prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs.

The Order comes into force on 29 December 2025 and will expire on 23 December 2026.
