TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025
Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit vehicles, horses and cyclists along the roads in Schedule 1 and pedestrians along the footway in Schedule 2. The Order is required to facilitate gas works in or near the roads and footway. The Order will come into operation on 26th January 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order is 18 months, however it is estimated that the works will only take approximately 5 weeks from commencement of the works. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the footway (except personnel involved in the works) and all vehicles, cyclists and horses will be prohibited from the roads (except vehicles involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An exemption will be provided for emergency services on duty and attending an emergency call. Alternative routes will be provided via the adjacent highway network. Schedule 1 Shakespeare Street from its junction with Hetton Road, for a distance of 35 metres in a north easterly direction. Burns Avenue South from its junction with Hetton Road and Shakespeare Street. Schedule 2 Dairy Lane Interchange the north-eastern most footway on the roundabout, for its entire eastern length.
