Essex - Temporary Road and Footpath Closures due to Utility and Maintenance Works
What is happening?
Essex County Council
(Footpath 124, Witham) (Temporary Prohibition of Use) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close Footpath 124, Witham in the District of Braintree, from a point approximately 39 metres north of Footpath 90 for approximately 20 metres.
The closure is scheduled to commence on 1 December 2025 to 1 May 2026 or where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting.
The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while bridge maintenance works including repair of concrete parapets is undertaken.
Alternative route: Footpath 90, Maldon Road, River View and vice versa.
The Order will come into effect on 1 December 2025 and may continue in force for 6 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Footpath 91, Braintree) (Temporary Prohibition of Use) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close Footpath 91, in the District of Braintree from a point approximately 80 metres east of its junction with footpath 67, east for approximately 100 metres.
The closure is scheduled to commence on 25 November 2025 to 25 May 2026 or where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting.
The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while a retaining wall is installed.
Alternative Route: Footpath 91, Footpath 60, Rayne Road, Footpath 67 and vice versa.
The Order will come into effect on 25 November 2025 and may continue in force for 6 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Braintree Green, Braintree) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Braintree Green, Braintree in the District of Braintree, from a point approximately 170m south east of its junction with Gore Road for a distance of approximately 30m in a south easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 2nd December 2025 for 7 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AD03166637693 – Anglian Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs shown and/or displayed on one.network.
The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while stop tap replacement works are undertaken by Anglian Water.
An alternative route is available via Braintree Green, Queenborough Lane, Avenue East, Business Park Link, Garden Village Way Roundabout, A131, B1256, Rayne Road, Gore Road, Braintree Green and vice versa.
The Order came into effect on 13th November 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Scrip’s Road, Coggeshall) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Scrip’s Road, Coggeshall in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Kelvedon Road for a distance of approximately 30m in a south westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 2nd December 2025 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AD01310615211 – Anglian Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs shown and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while remedial works are undertaken by Anglian Water.
An alternative route is available via:
1. B1024, Scrip’s Road (with vice versa for Scrip’s Road from Cuthedge Lane).
2. B1024, West Street, A120 (with access only into The Street, Church Road, Cuthedge Lane, Scrip’s Road) and vice versa.
The Order came into effect on 13th November 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Various Roads, District of Braintree) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic & Temporary Introduction of a Clearway) (No.16) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order:
1. To temporarily close those lengths of road in the District of Braintree as specified in the Schedule.
2. A temporary “No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping” restriction will be introduced on both sides of carriageway on the above lengths of road for the duration of the closures to facilitate the works. Signs will be installed indicating when the No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping restriction will be in force.
“The Essex County Council (Braintree District) (Prohibition of Waiting, Loading and Stopping) and (On Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement Area) Consolidation Order 2019” will be temporarily amended to include the temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping at Any Time’ restriction and suspend any existing parking and waiting restrictions on the above lengths of road only. All other restrictions and exemptions contained in the aforementioned Order and Amendments to that Order shall remain in force.
The works being undertaken will take place within an 18-month period from 13th November 2025; exact dates will be specified on One.Network.
The roads will be closed to facilitate each phase of works and then re-opened to the public. Access will be maintained for emergency services.
Diversion routes will be signed at each location and residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the road.
