A195 New Road and Lingey Lane - Bus Lane and Speed Amendment
What is happening?
THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD (A195 NEW ROAD AND LINGEY LANE) (BUS LANE AND SPEED AMENDMENT) TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER
Notice is hereby given that the Borough Council of Gateshead (“the Council”) proposes to make an Order in exercise of its powers under Sections 1(1), 2(1) to (3), 4, 19 and 84 and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, by virtue of the Traffic Management Act 2004 and all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Northumbria Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 to the Act.
The proposed Order will introduce a bus lane onto the northbound carriageway of A195 New Road and Lingey Lane and will therefore:- i) amend The Borough Council of Gateshead (Lingey Lane Felling) (Traffic Restrictions) Traffic Regulation Order 2014 to revoke Part II in its entirety ii) amend The Borough Council of Gateshead (Traffic Movements) (Consolidation) Order 2010 to revoke in Schedule 1.05 Item 5 relating to Lingey Lane in its entirety iii) amend The Borough Council of Gateshead (Speed Limits) (Consolidation) Order 2009 to revoke Schedule 7 “National Speed Limit” Item 3 relating to A195 New Road in its entirety iv) create a new Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 and insert the new items as set out below; and v) introduce a reduced 50mph Speed Limit as set out in Schedule 3 below.
The draft Order together with a plan and a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order may be viewed at the information desk on the ground floor of Gateshead Council’s Civic Centre, Regent Street, Gateshead, NE8 1HH, Monday to Thursday between 8.45am and 5.00pm and Friday between 8.45am and 4.30pm or online at: www.gateshead.gov.uk/trafficschemes.
If you wish to object to the proposed Order, you should send the grounds for your objection in writing to be received by the undersigned at the above address on or before 16 December 2025.
