What is happening?
CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE (Hogmanhoway 5K Run)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne intend, not less than seven days from the date of this Notice, to make an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
2. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit all vehicles to proceed on the following lengths of road -
(a) St. Mary’s Place, between Percy Street and John Dobson Street.
(b) John Dobson Street, between St. Mary’s Place and Market Street East.
(c) New Bridge Street West, between Blackett Street and John Dobson Street.
(d) Blackett Street, for its entire length.
(e) Percy Street, for its entire length.
(f) Sandyford Road, between St. Mary’s Place and the entrance road leading to St. George’s Carpark.
(g) Northumberland Road, between Radnor Street and John Dobson Street.
(h) College Street, between St. Mary’s Place and Ellison Place.
(i) Durant Road, between John Dobson Street and New Bridge Street Roundabout.
(j) Ellison Place, between Durant Road and Lovers Lane.
(k) Pilgrim Street, between Market Street East and Blackett Street.
(l) Gallowgate, between St. Andrew’s Street and Percy Street.
(m) St. Thomas Street, from its junction with Percy Street for 25 metres in a north-westerly direction.
3. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit all pedestrians to proceed on, Lovers Lane, from Ellison Place to Falconar Street University Access Road.
4. There is no alternative route for vehicles for lengths of road in section 2 (a - m).
The alternative route for pedestrians for the footpath stated in section 3 will be signed on site as required.
5. The Order is required to facilitate the “HOGMANHOWAY 5K RUN” (“the Event”), to enable members of the public to watch the Event and to reduce the disruption to traffic likely to be caused by the Event. The Order is required to allow the Event to be carried out safely on or near the highway and to ensure the health and safety of the general public.
6. Exemptions will be provided for police, fire brigade and ambulance vehicles on emergency call and vehicles and pedestrians associated with the event.
7. The Order will come into operation at 18:30 on 31 December 2025 and will continue for a period of 2 hours, as and when relevant traffic signs are displayed.
