What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984, SECTION 14(1)

THE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH OF BURY

(ALBERT STREET, BURY)

TEMPORARY CLOSURE ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury intend in not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and of all other enabling powers, the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicles from proceeding along: –

Albert Street, Bury – between Rochdale Road & Back Rochdale Road

The reason for the proposed order is to facilitate highway improvement works and delivery of the Fishpool and Pimhole Bee Active Travel Scheme

The alternate route will be via Rochdale Road, Bond Street, Wash Lane & vice versa

The Order comes into operation on 24/11/2025 and shall remain in force for a period of up to 18 months, although the anticipated duration of the works is approximately 9 weeks.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury have made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and of all other enabling powers, the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicles from proceeding along: –

  1. Market Street, Bury – between Gigg Lane & Cornwall Drive

  2. Alfred Street, Bury – from Gigg Lane to a point 30m north

    The reason for the proposed order is to facilitate highway improvement works and delivery of the Fishpool and Pimhole Bee Active Travel Scheme

    The alternate routes will be: –

  3. Via Gigg Lane, Parkhills Road, Market Street & vice versa

  4. Via Cornwall Drive, Gigg Lane & vice versa

    The Order comes into operation on 20/11/2025 and shall remain in force for a period of up to 18 months, although the anticipated duration of the works is approximately 3 weeks at each location.

THE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH OF BURY (CHURCH STREET AREA, BURY) (20 MPH SPEED LIMIT) ORDER 2025 AND TRAFFIC CALMING MEASURES

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Bury Metropolitan Borough Council intends to make the above named Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as follows:–

20 mph speed limit applying to the following streets:

Street Length
Church Street - Bury Full length
St Pauls Street Full length
Brick Street Full length
Hughes Close Full length
Black Bell Lane Full length
Un-named Street between Wash Lane and Church Street Full length
Church Court (unadopted) Full length

Furthermore the Council proposes to introduce the following traffic calming measures under Sections 90A and 90C of the Highways Act 1980 and the Highways (Road Humps) Regulations 1999:–

75mm high flat top road humps which are 4m long with 1:12 ramps.

A copy of the draft 20mph Speed Limit Order, plans showing the roads and areas affected, a schedule of all streets included and a statement of the Council’s reasons for making the Order and introducing the proposals may be requested by email at traffic.calming@bury.gov.uk quoting reference TM23/09/145 or by inspection at the Town Hall, Mon–Fri, 9am–4:30pm.

All representations whether in support or objecting to the proposals, together with the grounds on which they are made must be made in writing and sent to the Traffic Team, Bury Council, Bradley Fold depot, 34, Bradley Fold Road, Ainsworth, Radcliffe, Bury, BL2 6RS or preferably by email to ?? TROobjections@bury.gov.uk, quoting ref: TM23/09/145 reference above by 11th December 2025.

Please note that all representations received may be considered in public by the Council and that the substance of any representation together with the name and address of the person making it could become available for public inspection.
