York, Multiple Traffic Restrictions Due To Various Works
What is happening?
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Thursday, 20 November 2025 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4), (5) & (6). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the location numbered (7).
(1) BOOTHAM LEVEL CROSSING, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding through the Bootham Level Crossing on Wigginton Road, York (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2335hrs on Monday, 24 November 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Tuesday, 25 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Wigginton Road, A1237, Haxby Road, Link Road.
(2) ST STEPHENS ROAD, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on St Stephens Road, York between its junction with Cornlands Road and the north-western junction with Thoresby Road (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Tuesday, 25 November 2025 and ending at 1530hrs on Tuesday, 25 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Gale Lane, Cornlands Road. Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(3) HUNTINGTON ROAD, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Huntington Road, York between its junction with Alexander Avenue and the projected south-western boundary of property no. 302 (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Tuesday, 25 November 2025 and ending at 1530hrs on Thursday, 27 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0930hrs and 1530hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Haxby Terrace, Haxby Road, Link Road. Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(4) EASTFIELD LANE, DUNNINGTON
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Eastfield Lane, Dunnington between its junction with Stamford Bridge Road (A166) and the projected north-eastern boundary of the property named South Lodge (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 26 November 2025 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 28 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1800hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Church Bulk, Stamford Bridge Road. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(5) PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY 15/17/20 (CONTINUATION), KEXBY
This Order prohibits pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of Public Right of Way No. 15/17/20, Kexby (closed public right of way) due to an unsafe footbridge thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Saturday, 22 November 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Sunday, 03 May 2026 (danger period) or at a time when the bridge has been made safe, whichever is earlier. This is to ensure public safety. This Order continues the temporary road closure Notice which had an end date of 2359hrs on Friday, 21 November 2025.
(6) ANTHEA DRIVE (CONTINUATION), YORK
This Order continues in force The York (Anthea Drive) (Temporary Traffic Restriction) Order 2025 (original Order). The effect of which is to continue the prohibition on vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Anthea Drive, York between its junctions with New Lane and Sherwood Grove (closed road) during the period commencing at 1631 hours on Friday, 21 November 2025 and ending at 1630hrs on Sunday, 30 November 2025 (works period) or on a date when water mains works being undertaken thereon have been completed whichever is earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1800hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via New Lane, Windsor Garth, Gale Lane, Front Street, Acomb Road.
(7) NAVIGATION ROAD, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of carriageway on Navigation Road, York between its junctions with Walmgate and Speculation Street (closed carriageway) during the period when power grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 01 December 2025 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 05 December 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Foss Islands Road, Walmgate. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
