What is happening?

Essex County Council

(A1023 High Street & Crown Street, Brentwood) (Lighting up Brentwood) (Special Events) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that Essex County Council in exercise of its powers under Section 16 (A-C) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended), has made the above Order to facilitate the switching on of the Christmas Lights.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close the following lengths of A1023 High Street & Crown Street in the Borough of Brentwood, as specified:

Road Description

A1023 High Street, Brentwood - From its junction with Kings Road/Weald Road to its junction with Ingrave Road/Ongar Road, for approximately 570 metres.

Crown Street, Brentwood - From its junction with High Street to its junction with Hart Street, for approximately 50 metres.

The one-way restrictions on Hart Street as detailed in ‘The London Traffic (Prescribed Routes) (Brentwood) Regulations 1965’ is hereby temporarily suspended for the duration of the event. All other restrictions contained within the aforementioned order shall remain in force.

The closure is scheduled to commence on 22 November 2025 for 1 day between the hours of 8.00am until 20.00pm or where appropriate signs are showing, and weather permitting and is required to facilitate the switching on of the Christmas Lights.

The alternative routes

Route 1 for southbound traffic will be via A128 Ingrave Road – Queens Road – Kings Road and vice versa.

Route 2 for northbound traffic will be via Weald Road – Western Road – William Hunter Way and A128 Ongar Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access to premises will be permitted throughout the closure. Access to Emergency Services will be permitted at all times.

The Order will come into effect on 22 November 2025 and may continue in force for 3 days unless extended by the Secretary of State.
