Shaftesbury Avenue - Temporary Prohibition of driving order

What is happening?

SOUTH TYNESIDE COUNCIL
(SHAFTESBURY AVENUE, SOUTH SHIELDS) ORDER 2025

South Tyneside Council proposes to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers. The effect of the Order will be to:- REVOKE No Waiting Mon to Fri 8am to 4.30pm on Shaftesbury Ave west side from a point 311m northwest then southwest of the north western kerb line of its junction with Towers Place in a south westerly direction for 30m and east side from a point 320m northwest then southwest of the north western kerb line of its junction with Towers
Place in a south westerly direction for 47m. INTRODUCE No Waiting At Any Time and No
Loading/Unloading At Any Time on Shaftesbury Ave both sides from a point 118m north-west of its junction with A194 Newcastle Rd north westwards for 36m. No Waiting At Any Time on Shaftesbury Ave south side from its junction with Stafford Close eastwards for 16m; from its junction with Stafford Close westwards for 51m; from a point 62m west of its junction with Stafford Close westwards for 41m; from a point 113m west of its junction with Stafford Close westwards for 19m; from a point 132m west of its junction with Stafford Close westwards for 34m and west side for its entire length and north
side from a point 105m west of its junction with Stafford Close westwards for 73m. No Waiting At Any Time on Stafford Close both sides from its junction with Shaftesbury Ave southwards for 13.5m. Full details of these proposals are contained in the draft order which, together with a plan showing the lengths of road affected and a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order, may be inspected from Monday to Friday between the hours of 10am and 2pm at the Town Hall at the

If you wish to raise an objection, express support or make any
other observations about these proposals, you must make them in writing to the Council’s Legal
Services Department at the address below or by using the same email address above by 10
December 2025. Any objections must specify the grounds on which they are made.
