Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, makes or intends to make the following Orders.
CANTERBURY AREA
A290 St Dunstans Street, Canterbury, CT2 7EP (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER DECEMBER 2025
To allow carriageway works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of A290 St Dunstans Street, Canterbury from 22:00 hours on 8th December 2025, with estimated completion by 05:00 hours on 9th December 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed southbound only for the entire length of the road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any southbound through traffic is via London Road, A2050 Rheims Way, A28 Pin Hill, Rhodaus Town, Lower Bridge Street, Broad Street, Military Road, Tourtel Road, B2248 Kingsmead Road, St Stephens Road, Station Road West and A290 St Dunstans Street.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Bekesbourne Lane, Bekesbourne, CT4 5EJ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER NOVEMBER 2025
To allow utility works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on Bekesbourne Lane, Bekesbourne from 24th November 2025, with estimated completion by 28th November 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Bekesbourne Lane, A257 High Street, The Hill, Canterbury Road, Littlebourne Road, Bekesbourne Lane, Bekesbourne Hill and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Church Street, Whitstable, CT5 1SR (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER DECEMBER 2025
To allow overhead cabling works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Church Street, Whitstable from 10th December 2025, for up to one day between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed at the junction with The Bridge Approach, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Castle Road, The Bridge Approach, Old Bridge Road, Millstrood Road, A2990 Thanet Way, Church Street and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Hillbrow Avenue, Sturry, CT2 0PG (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER NOVEMBER 2025
To allow pole and cabling works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Hillbrow Avenue, Sturry from 26th November 2025 with estimated completion by 27th November 2025, between the hours of 09:00 and 17:00, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed between numbers 1 and 17, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Hillbrow Avenue, River View, Ladywood Road, Hawe Lane, Popes Lane, Hillbrow Avenue and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Matthews Road, Herne Bay, CT6 7SG (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER DECEMBER 2025
To allow drainage repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Matthews Road, Herne Bay from 9th December 2025, for up to one day between the hours of 08:00 and 17:00, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed at the junction with Rowland Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Rowland Drive, Gilchrist Avenue, Herne Drive, Matthews Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
North Stream, Marshside, CT3 4EH (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER NOVEMBER 2025
To allow pole and cabling works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of North Stream, Marshside from 26th November 2025 with estimated completion by 27th November 2025, between the hours of 09:00 and 17:00, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed between the Hog and Donkey and The Blandings, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic northbound is via Chapel Lane, Highstead, Ford Hill, Heart In Hand Road, Maystreet, Sweechbridge Road, A299 Thanet Way, Brook Lane and North Stream.
The alternative route for any through traffic southbound is via North Stream, A299 Thanet Way, Heart In Hand Road, Ford Hill, Highstead and Chapel Lane.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Regent Street & St Peter’s Road, Whitstable. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING & TEMPORARY ONE-WAY SUSPENSION) TEMPORARY ORDER NOVEMBER 2025
To allow footway reconstruction works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Regent Street & St Peter’s Road, Whitstable from 24th November 2025, with estimated completion by 21st December 2025, or until the works have been completed.
Regent Street will be closed in phases, for the entire length, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The One-Way Order on St Peter’s Road will be suspended between the junctions with Regent Street and Victoria Street, for the duration of the works.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via:
Phase 1 - Argyle Road, B2205 Oxford Street, Cromwell Road and vice versa.
Phase 2: Northbound - Argyle Road, B2205 High Street, Sea Street, Harbour Street, Albert Street and St Peters Road.
Phase 2: Southbound - St Peters Road, Albert Street, B2205 Harbour Street, High Street and Argyle Road.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Riverdale Road, Canterbury, CT1 1TX (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER DECEMBER 2025
To allow frame and cover replacement works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Riverdale Road, Canterbury from 19:00 hours on 12th December 2025, with estimated completion by 05:30 hours on 13th December 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed at the junction with A28 Sturry Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential and emergency access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Shalloak Road, Broad Oak, CT2 0PR (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER NOVEMBER 2025
To allow level crossing works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Shalloak Road, Broad Oak from 30th November 2025, for up to one day between the hours of 08:00 and 20:00, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed 20m either side of Broad Oak level crossing, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Shalloak Road, Sweechgate, A291 Herne Bay Road, Sturry Hill, A28 Mill Road, Sturry Road, Vauxhall Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Shalloak Road, Broad Oak, CT2 0PR (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER DECEMBER 2025
To allow drainage works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Shalloak Road, Broad Oak from 8th December 2025 with estimated completion by 10th December 2025, between the hours of 19:00 and 08:00 only, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed south of the level crossing, from access to Viridor to immediately past the road bend, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Shalloak Road, Vauxhall Road, A28 Sturry Road, Mill Road, A291 Sturry Hill, Herne Bay Road, Sweechgate and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Various Roads, Canterbury - Preservation Treatment. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING & TEMPORARY 20 MPH SPEED RESTRICTIONS) TEMPORARY ORDER NOVEMBER 2025
To allow the Surface Preservation Scheme to take place, Kent County Council has made an Order to temporarily prohibit through traffic on various roads throughout Canterbury. This order takes effect on or after 24th November 2025 for up to 18 months. It may be necessary for some of the roads to be closed on multiple occasions for each phase of the works. Planned dates will be published in advance of the works on One.Network and indicated by signage displayed on site 14 days before they start.
After the Surface Treatment works are complete, temporary speed restrictions of 20 mph may be imposed for a period of up to 7 days, these will be clearly indicated by relevant signs displayed on site.
These works are subject to weather conditions and other factors which may potentially cause changes at short notice. Every effort will be made to keep as close as possible to the planned dates and any changes will be publicised.

Chalkpit Hill and School Lane, Bekesbourne
The roads will be closed between the junctions with Station Road and Adisham Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Adisham Road, Adisham Downs Road, Pond Hill, Station Road, B2046 Adisham Road, High Street, A257 Canterbury Road, Wingham Road, Bekesbourne Lane and vice versa.
Maypole Road, Hoath
The road will be closed between the junctions with Maypole Lane and Church Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Maypole Road, Ford Hill, Highstead, Boyden Gate Hill, Church Lane, Sandpit Hill, Nethergong Hill, The Glen, A28 Island Road, Staines Hill, Babs Oak Hill, Hoath Road and vice versa.
Boyden Gate Hill and Church Lane, Chislet
The roads will be closed between the junctions with Chapel Lane and Chitty Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Highstead, Ford Hill, Maypole Road, Hoath Road, Babs Oak Hill, A28 Staines Hill, Island Road, The Glen, Nethergong Hill, Sandpit Hill and vice versa.
Hoath Road, Hoath
The road will be closed between the junctions with Bredlands Lane and Hawe Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Babs Oak Hill, A28 Staines Hill, A28 Island Road, Bredlands Lane and vice versa.
Hawe Lane, Sturry
The road will be closed between the junctions with Babs Oak Hill and Ladywood Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via A28 Island Road, A291 Sturry Hill, A291 Herne Bay Road, Popes Lane, Hawe Lane and vice versa.
Hardres Court Road, Lower Hardres
The road will be closed between the junctions with Faussett Hill and Bow Hill, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Hardres Court Road, The Street (Bossingham), Bossingham Road, Curtis Lane, B2068 Stone Street, Street End and vice versa.
Burnt House Hill, Stodmarsh
The road will be closed between the junctions with Stodmarsh Road and Hollybush Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Stodmarsh Road, Hollybush Lane and vice versa.
Chestfield Road, Chestfield
The road will be closed between the junctions with South Street and Willow Way, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via South Street, Millstrood Road, A2990 Thanet Way, Chestfield Road and vice versa.
Hackington Road, Tyler Hill
The road will be closed between the junctions with Thornden Wood Road and Summer Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Hackington Road, Radfall Road, Radfall Hill, Chestfield Road, A2990 Thanet Way, A290 Clapham Hill, Pean Hill, Honey Hill, Blean Common, Blean Hill, Tile Kiln Hill, Whitstable Road, Forty Acres Road, Beaconsfield Road, St Stephen’s Hill, Canterbury Hill, Wood Hill and vice versa.
Joy Lane, Whitstable
The road will be closed between the junctions with B2205 Borstal Hill and Seasalter Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for through traffic eastbound is via Faversham Road, Seasalter Road, Head Hill Road, Whitstable Road, A299 Thanet Way On Slip, A299 Thanet Way, A2990 Thanet Way Slip Way, A2990 Thanet Way, B2205 Borstal Hill and vice versa.
The alternative route for through traffic westbound is via B2205 Borstal Hill, A290 Clapham Hill, A299 Westbound On Slip, A299 Thanet Way, Graveney Off Slip, Staple Street, Staplestreet Road, Head Hill Road, Seasalter Road and Faversham Road.
Hollow Lane, Canterbury
The road will be closed between the junctions with New House Lane and Brayebrook Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Hollow Lane, A28 Wincheap, Wincheap Green, A28 Pin Hill, A28 Rhodaus Town, Riding Gate Roundabout, Old Dover Road, B2068 Nackington Road, Merton Lane, Iffin Lane and vice versa.
