Essex, 20mph Speed Zone & Temporary Road Closures Due To Various Works

What is happening?

ESSEX COUNNTY COUNCIL

(Various Roads, Saffron Walden) (District of Uttlesford) (20mph Zone) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that Essex County Council has made the above Order under Sections 84(1) (a) and (2) and Part II of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended).

The effect of the Order: To introduce a 20mph zone on the following roads in the Parish of Saffron Walden in the District of Uttlesford.

Road

Description

Jack Cardiff Way

From a point approximately 8 metres from its junction with Miller Street for the entire length approximately 268 meters, including any turning heads.

Acre Ley Close

From its junction with Jack Cardiff Way for its entire length approximately 54 meters, including any turning heads.

Little Harp Road

From its junction with Jack Cardiff Way for the entire length for approximately 115 meters, including any turning heads.

Date of operation: The Order will come into operation on 17th November 2025

Application to the High Court: Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or that any requirement of that Act, or any instrument made under it, has not been complied with in relation to the Order, may, within 6 weeks from the date of the making of the Order apply to the High Court for this purpose.

(Bardfield Road, Thaxted) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Bardfield Road, Thaxted in the District of Uttlesford, from a point approximately 695m north east then south east of its junction with Mill End for a distance of approximately 30m in a south easterly direction.

The closure is scheduled to commence on 10th December 2025 for 8 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EC3001822297 – UK Power Networks). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while new connection works are undertaken by UK Power Networks.

An alternative route is available via: B1057, B1053, B1051, Newbiggen Street, Mill End and vice versa, (with access only into Bardfield Road, Little Bardfield Road, Little Sampford Road and Bell Lane).

The Order will come into effect on 20th November 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Littlebury Green Road, Littlebury) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Littlebury Green Road, Littlebury in the District of Uttlesford, from a point approximately 860m south west of its junction with Chapel Green Road for a distance of approximately 320m in a south westerly direction.

The closure is scheduled to commence on 8th December 2025 for 2 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP02256549109 – GTM). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while tree cutting works are undertaken by GTM.

An alternative route is available via: Littlebury Green Road, Strethall Road, B1383, B1039 and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 20th November 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Strethall Road, Strethall/Littlebury)(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Strethall Road, Strethall/Littlebury in the District of Uttlesford, from a point approximately 350m in a south east of the junction of Batts Lane for a distance of approximately 735m in a south easterly direction.

The closure is scheduled to commence on 10th December 2025 for 2 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP02263759655 – GTM). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while tree cutting works are undertaken by GTM.

An alternative route is available via: Batts Hall Lane, Catmere End, Littlebury Green Road, Strethall Road, High Street and vice versa (with access only into Strethall Road).

The Order will come into effect on 20th November 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Warehouse Road, Stebbing) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Warehouse Road, Stebbing in the District of Uttlesford, from its junction with Dunmow Road for a distance of approximately 25m in a northerly direction.

The closure is scheduled to commence on 10th December 2025 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (BC008WGJL691C01SB – Openreach). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while carriageway patching works are undertaken by Openreach.

An alternative route is available via: B1256, Broxted Road, Watch House Road, Warehouse Road, Stebbing Road, Porters Hall Road, Warehouse Road and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 20th November 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Bury Lane & Heydon Lane, Elmdon) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

  1. To temporarily close that length of Bury Lane, Elmdon in the District of Uttlesford, from its junction with Heydon Lane for a distance of approximately 20m in a north easterly then north westerly direction.

  2. To temporarily close that length of Heydon Lane, Elmdon in the District of Uttlesford, from its junction with High Street for a distance of approximately 45m in a south easterly direction.

The closures are scheduled to commence on 26th November 2025 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (BC008WG0V8V9ZETHSB & BC008WG0V8V9ZETH01SB – Openreach). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closures are required for the safety of the public and workforce while blockage clearance works are undertaken by Openreach.

An alternative route is available via: High Street, Heydon Lane and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 6th November 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
