Essex - Speed Limit Amendments and Temporary Road Closures with Clearway Restrictions

What is happening?

Essex County Council

(Various Roads, St Osyth) (Tendring District) (Combined Speed Limit) Order 202*

Notice is hereby given that Essex County Council proposes to make the above Orders under Sections 84(1)(a) and (2) and Part III of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended)

The Effect of the Order:

1. To Implement: a '40mph Speed Limit' (currently National Speed Limit 60mph)

‘The Essex County Council (Tendring District) (Restricted Roads) (No.4) Order 2008’ and ‘The Essex County Council (Tendring District) (40mph Speed Limit) (No.2) Order 2010’ are hereby revoked in so much as they relate to the Parish of St Osyth, as specified in the schedule to this order.

(St Marys Road, Clacton On Sea) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of St Marys Road, Clacton On Sea in the District of Tendring, from a point approximately 40m north east of its junction with Magdalen Road for a distance of approximately 50m in a north easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 8th December 2025 for 9 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AZ7011001454564 – Cadent). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while service works are undertaken by Cadent.

An alternative route is available via St Marys Road, St Annes Road, Old Road, Wellesley Road, Olivers Road, Coppins Road, Magdalen Road and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 20th November 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Centenary Way, Clacton on Sea) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Centenary Way, Clacton on Sea in the District of Tendring, from its junction with Thorpe Road Roundabout to the junction with Centenary Way Roundabout a distance of approximately 680m. The closure is scheduled to commence on 26th November 2025 for 2 nights (19:00-05:00) or where stated on a valid permit (EP40066750719 – Persimmon Homes). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while resurfacing works are undertaken by Persimmon Homes.

An alternative route is available via Thorpe Road, North Road, St Johns Road, Little Clacton Bypass, Progress Way, Centenary Way and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 6th November 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Various Roads, District of Tendring) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic & Temporary Introduction of a Clearway) (No.11) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

1. To temporarily close those lengths of road in the District of Tendring as specified in the Schedule.

2. A temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping’ restriction will be introduced on both sides of the carriageway on the above lengths of road, for the duration of the closures to facilitate the works. Signs will be installed indicating when the No Waiting restriction will be in force.

‘The Essex County Council (Tendring District) (Prohibition of Waiting, Loading and Stopping) and (On Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement Area) Consolidation Order 2019’ will be temporarily amended to include the temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping at Any Time’ restriction and suspend any existing parking and waiting restrictions on the above lengths of roads only. All other restrictions and exemptions contained in the aforementioned Order and Amendments to that Order shall remain in force.

The works being undertaken will take place within an 18-month period from 6th November 2025; exact dates will be specified on one.network. The roads will be closed to facilitate each phase of works and then re-opened to the public. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Diversion routes will be signed at each location and residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the road.
