Grey Street Area - Temporary Prohibit All Traffic For Event

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on 6th November 2025 the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and has received consent from the Secretary of State for Transport to make such an Order.
2. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit all traffic to proceed on the following roads: Grey Street - between Blackett Street and Market Street, Grainger Street - between Nelson Street and Blackett Street, Eldon Square - from its junction with Blackett Street northwards for its full length, Nelson Street - for its whole length. Grainger Street - From its junction with Nelson Street in a south westerly direction for a distance of 45 metres.
3. Exemptions will be provided for - police, fire brigade or ambulance vehicles on emergency call, and vehicles requiring access for deliveries and servicing but only between the hours of 9.00pm to 9.30am.
4. The Order is required in connection with Christmas Market 2025 ("the Event") and to reduce the disruption to traffic likely to be caused by the Event. The Order is required to allow the Event to be carried out safely on or near the highway and to ensure the health and safety of the public.
5. Appropriate traffic management will be in place during the closures.
6. Exemptions will be provided for vehicles and personnel engaged in the works and police, fire brigade and ambulance vehicles and personnel on emergency call.
7. The Order will come into operation on 15 November 2025 and will continue, as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed, up to 23 December 2025.
