What is happening?

THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD
(SUNDERLAND ROAD, GATESHEAD) (BUS LANE) TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER

Notice is hereby given that the Borough Council of Gateshead (hereinafter referred to as “the Council”) proposes to make an Order in exercise of its powers under Sections 1(1), 2(1) to (3), 4, 19 and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, by virtue of the Traffic Management Act 2004 and all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Northumbria Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 to the Act. The proposed Order will introduce a bus lane onto the eastbound carriageway of Sunderland Road as set out in the Schedule below. The draft Order together with a plan and a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order may be viewed at the information desk on the ground floor of Gateshead Council’s Civic Centre, Regent Street, Gateshead, NE8 1HH, Monday to Thursday between 8.45am and 5.00pm and Friday between 8.45am and 4.30pm or online at: www.gateshead.gov.uk/ trafficschemes. If you wish to object to the proposed Order, you should send the grounds for your objection in writing to be received by the undersigned at the above address on or before 08 December 2025.

(a) North (East Bound)
(i) From its junction with the east side kerb line of Stoneygate Lane, in an easterly direction for a distance of 101 metres.
(ii) From its junction with the east side kerb line of Ridley Terrace Back (west entrance) to its junction with Ridley Terrace Back (east entrance).
(iii) From its junction with the east side kerb line of Ridley Terrace Back (east entrance) to its junction with Heworth Bus Metro Interchange.
