What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

THE A1 TRUNK ROAD (LAYBY AT HAGGERSTON)

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A1 Trunk Road in the County of Northumberland, to enable public restroom reconstruction works to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to start at 6am on Monday 5 January 2026 for 3.5 months, or until completed. The effect of the Order will be to close, for 24 hours a day, the layby adjacent to the A1, approximately 350 metres north of the unnamed road leading to Haggerston Castle Holiday Park.

Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the prohibition (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works, to anyone engaged in the said works, or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes).

Access will be maintained at all times to premises and properties which are accessible from, and only from, the A1. The Order comes into force on 4 January 2026 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
