York, Multiple Roads, Temporary Traffic Restrictions Due To Various Works

What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Thursday, 06 November 2025 in respect of the locations numbered (1) & (2). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the location numbered (3).

(1) HAXBY ROAD, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Haxby Road, York between its roundabout controlled junctions with Hayley’s Terrace and Link Road (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Monday, 10 November 2025 and ending at 1530hrs on Tuesday, 11 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0930hrs and 1530hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Huntington Road. Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.

(2) NUNNERY LANE & PRICES LANE, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of carriageway on Nunnery Lane and Prices Lane, York (i) on Nunnery Lane between its junctions with Blossom Street and Prices Lane and (ii) on Prices Lane between its junction with Nunnery Lane and a location 30 metres south-east of said junction (closed carriageway) during the period when street lighting works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Tuesday, 11 November 2025 and ending at 0400hrs on Wednesday, 12 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Blossom Street, The Mount, Scarcroft Road, Bishopthorpe Road.

(3) GRANGE GARTH, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Grange Garth, York between its junction with New Walk Terrace and a location 44 metres south-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when water supply works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 17 November 2025 and ending at 2000hrs on Friday, 21 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Fulford Road, Grange Street. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period. The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Section 122 of the Local Government Act – Notice of intention to appropriate public open space for highway purposes off Wigginton Road

Notice is given that City of York Council in exercise of its powers under section 122 of the Local Government Act 1972 intends to appropriate land at Wigginton Road, opposite the allotments, north of the junction with Crichton Avenue.

The proposal to appropriate the land as adopted highway is being considered to enable the construction of an improved junction for the Cocoa Gardens housing development off Wigginton Road, suitable pedestrian and cycle access between the housing site and Wigginton Road, and improved bus stop facilities in the vicinity of the site.

A plan of the areas proposed to become adopted highway is available at www.york.gov.uk/ProposedLandDisposalPlan. A copy of the plan can also be requested by email (see contact details below) and/or consulted at the Council’s offices (see address above).

All objections and responses to this consultation should be sent no later than 7 December 2025 to highway.regulation@york.gov.uk or to City Development, Highway Regulation, City of York Council, West Offices, Station Rise, York, YO1 6GA, with the reference “Cocoa Gardens land appropriation”.
