THE M1 MOTORWAY 

(JUNCTION 33 TO JUNCTION 36)

(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M1 Motorway, in the Boroughs of Barnsley and Rotherham and City of Sheffield, to enable resurfacing, road markings, bridge works, electrical loop installation and marker post renewal works to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to start on Monday 1 December 2025 for 15 weeks, or until completed.

The effect of the Order will be, between 8pm and 6am, at times during the works, to:

(i)    impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the M1 northbound carriageway from 800 metres south of the exit slip road at Junction 33 (Brinsworth) to 800 metres north of the entry slip road at Junction 36 (Tankersley), 

a distance of 19000 meres;

(ii)   impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the M1 southbound carriageway from 800 metres north of the exit slip road at Junction 36 to 800 metres south of the entry slip road at Junction 33,  a distance of 19000 metres;

(iii)   close the M1 northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 33 to the entry slip road at Junction 34 (Tinsley Viaduct),  a distance of 6600 metres;

(iv)  close the M1 southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 34 to the entry slip road at Junction 33, a distance of 

6500 metres;

(v)   close the M1 northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 34 to the entry slip road at Junction 35 (Thorpe Hesley),  a distance of 6600 metres;

(vi)  close the M1 southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 35 to the entry slip road at Junction 34, a distance of 

7000 metres;

(vii)  close the M1 northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 35a (Stocksbridge) to the entry slip road at

Junction 36, a distance of 3100 metres;

(viii) close the M1 southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 36 to the entry slip road at Junction 35a, a distance of  3100 metres;

(ix)  close the M1 southbound exit and northbound entry slip roads at Junction 33;

(x)   close the M1 northbound and southbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 34;

(xi)  close the M1 northbound exit and southbound entry slip roads at Junction 35; and

(xii)  close the M1 northbound exit and southbound entry slip roads at Junction 36. During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times.

Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes).
