What is happening?

SLOUGH BOROUGH COUNCIL
Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (RTRA 1984) and regulation 3 of the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Procedure Regulations 1992

SLOUGH BOROUGH COUNCIL (VARIATION IN SPEED LIMIT AND ASSOCIATED MEASURES ON FARNHAM ROAD, FURNIVAL AVENUE AND SHEFFIELD ROAD) ORDER 53 OF 2025 
(“Proposed Order”)

1. SLOUGH BOROUGH COUNCIL (Council) gives notice that it proposes to make an order under section 14(1)(a) of the RTRA 1984 and any other enabling powers.
2. If made, the Proposed Order will:
• prohibit any vehicle over an area of the highway being specified in the Schedule 1 to this Order including their 
junctions and side roads approaches.
• permit the variation of the speed limit of a 30mph to a 20mph and including not more than 100 metres into its 
junction side road approaches on:
 • Farnham Road in both directions from a point 265 metres south of its junction with Whitby Road, to its junction 
with Crofthill Road,
 • the entirety of Furnival Avenue
• prohibit any pedestrian and cyclist using the footway along Farnham Road and Furnival Avenue within the works 
area.
• permit the operation of a contraflow system to enable the passage of northbound vehicles on the southbound 
carriageway, and vice-versa, under controlled traffic management on the Farnham Road, Furnival Avenue including 
not more than 100 metres into its junction’s-side road approaches
• permit the operation of a contraflow system to enable the passage of eastbound vehicles on the westbound 
carriageway, and vice-versa, under controlled traffic management on Sheffield Road from its junction with Farnham 
Road to a point 100m east of its junction with Devon Avenue.
3. The speed limit and associated measures imposed by the Proposed Order do not apply to:
• Special forces drivers using vehicles in response to a national security emergency or whilst being trained or 
practising to do so; or
• Any vehicle being used for emergency services purposes if the imposition of the speed limit would be likely to 
hinder such purposes.
4. The Proposed Order is needed:
• because works are or are proposed to be carried out on or near the road.
5. If made, the Proposed Order shall come into operation at 00:00hrs on Monday 29th September 2025 for a period 
of 18 months, or until the works have been completed. The work is expected to be completed by 23:59hrs on 
Friday 26th March 2027.
6. Alternative routes will be available for use while the Proposed Order is in force with local diversions signed at the 
locations. Advanced warning notices will be at the locations advising of the dates the works will be carried out. 
Access will be maintained for all local residents and businesses.
7. A copy of the draft Order and Plan may be inspected free of charge at the locations listed below between normal 
working hours (excluding bank holidays and public holidays).

 • The Curve, William Street, Slough, SL1 1XY and may be inspected on the Councils Website at
