THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD (HILLGATE / PIPEWELLGATE, GATESHEAD - FOOTPATH CLOSURES) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025
What is happening?
Notice is hereby given that on the 12 November 2025 the Borough Council of Gateshead made an Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit all pedestrians and cyclists from proceeding along the shared use footpath at:-
a. Hillgate - from its junction with Bridge Street, extending in a north easterly direction for 90 metres, and
b. Pipewellgate - from its junction with Bridge Street, extending in a south westerly direction for a distance of 50 metres.
The Order is required to facilitate works being carried out to install an 11kV feeder cable. The Order will come into force on the 17 November 2025. The maximum duration of the Order will be 6 months, however the works are expected to be completed on the 30 January 2026. During the works all pedestrians and cyclists (except pedestrians associated with the works and emergency service operatives on duty) will be prohibited from proceeding along the footpaths as described above until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. During the prohibition there will be a signed diversion in place.
