OXFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL
(AMBROSDEN, ARNCOTT & BLACKTHORN PARISHES) (SPEED LIMITS) ORDER 20
NOTICE is given that Oxfordshire County Council proposes to make the above order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers. The effect of the order – to help improve road safety as a result of adjacent residential development – is to extend the existing 40mph speed limit by 90 metres on the unnamed ‘Blackthorn road’ running north-eastwards to the B4011, replacing that length of the existing 50mph speed limit in the process. Additionally, the following traffic improvements are also proposed:
-
New raised table traffic calming features will be constructed on the unnamed Blackthorn road at the following locations:
• at its junction with Ploughley Road, to be approx. 11 metres long, with 2m ramps at either end, and
• either side of its junction with Quintan Avenue, to be approx. 23 metres long, with 2m ramps at either end.
-
New raised Side Road Entry Treatments (SRETs) will be constructed with 1metre long ramps at the following junctions with the unnamed Blackthorn road:
• Quintan Avenue; and
• Allectus Avenue.
-
Also the proposed parallel crossing – which was approved by the Council in July 2025 – will be moved approx. 7m eastwards, so as to be out of a dedicated tree root protection zone.
The Oxfordshire County Council (Ambrosden, Arncott & Blackthorn Parishes) (Speed Limits) (No.2) Order 2023 will be revoked/replaced as required.
Documents giving more details of the proposals are available for public inspection online by visiting: https://letstalk.oxfordshire.gov.uk
