PUBLIC PATH NOTICE
FOOTPATHS AND BRIDLEWAYS IN GRIZEDALE FOREST, WHINLATTER FOREST AND WHYTHOP WOODS, TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS GIVEN that under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the Lake District National Park Authority intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make an order.
The effect of the order will be to prohibit public traffic for all purposes from proceeding over various footpaths and bridleways in Grizedale Forest, Whinlatter Forest and Whythop Woods in the parishes of Above Derwent, Colton, Coniston, Hawkshead, Lorton, Satterthwaite and Wythop because of danger to the public from fast moving vehicles during motor sports events.
The notice and plan showing the route concerned may be inspected during normal office or opening hours at the National Park Authority,
Wayfaring House, Murley Moss, Oxenholme Road, Kendal, LA9 7RL;
Keswick Tourist Information Centre, Moot Hall, Keswick, CA12 5JR;
Forestry England, Whinlatter Forest, Keswick, CA12 5TW;
at Forestry England, Grizedale Forest, Hawkshead, Ambleside, LA22 0QJ;
Customer Services, Westmorland & Furness Council,
South Lakeland House, Lowther Street, Kendal, LA9 4DQ;
Customer Services, Cumberland Council,
Allerdale House, New Bridge Road, Workington, CA14 3YJ;
and online at www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/rowclosures.
The order is anticipated to take effect at 00:01 on 6 December 2025 and will continue in force for six months, but will only be in effect during three separate days within the six month period:
for 24 hours, midnight to midnight, on Saturday 6 December 2025 (Grizedale East and Grizedale West),
for 12 hours from 12:00 noon until midnight on Friday 6 March 2026 (Whythop Woods)
and for 24 hours, midnight to midnight, on Saturday 7 March 2026 (Grizedale West, Whinlatter Forest and Whythop Woods).
All the routes will be accessible as normal other than on these days. At times when the events are taking place, signs will be erected indicating that the routes are closed.
