ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984: SECTION 14(1)
TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC ORDER 2025
PEMBROKE STREET, BEDFORD 25 – 079
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Bedford Borough Council has made an Order the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicle except a vehicle being used for fire, police or ambulance purposes in an emergency, from proceeding along the length of Pembroke Street, Bedford.
This temporary road closure is required to facilitate pole renewal and shall apply to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.
This temporary road closure is anticipated to be in operation 08:00 to 18:00 hours from 11th November 2025 to 12th November 2025
The signed alternative route for vehicles affected by the order is available via Pembroke Street, Rosamond Road, York Street, Castle Road.
The reverse route applies.

TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC ORDER 2025
VILLAGE STREET, HINWICK 25 – 089
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Bedford Borough Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this Notice to make an Order the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicle, except a vehicle being used for fire, police or ambulance purposes in an emergency, from proceeding along Village Street, Hinwick.
This temporary road closure is required to facilitate replacement of existing culvert, repair works to existing headwall/ditch and resurfacing of road and shall apply to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.
This temporary road closure is anticipated to be in operation 24 hours from 27th November 2025 to 9th December 2025
The signed alternative route for vehicles affected by the order is available via Village Street, Bozeat Road, Hinwick Road, Harrold Road, Allens Hill, London Road, A509 Bozeat Bypass, Strixton Road, A509 London Road, Wollaston Road.
The reverse route applies.

(PROHIBITION AND RESTRICTION OF WAITING AND LOADING AND PARKING PLACES) ORDER 2017 (AMENDMENT NO.34) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on 16th October 2025 Bedford Borough Council made the above Traffic Regulation Order, the effect of which is detailed below:Effect of the Order.
1. To revoke all existing waiting and loading restrictions and loading bays, and replace with the following:-
“No waiting at any time” restrictions (double yellow lines) and “No loading at any time” restrictions (double kerb blips) on the following lengths of road:
A Midland Road, Bedford
(i) On its northern side, extending from a point approx. 9 metres west of the west side of Greyfriars for a distance of approx. 28.5 metres in a westerly direction.
(ii) On its northern side, extending from a point approx. 57.5 metres west of the west side of Greyfriars for a distance of approx. 3.5 metres in a westerly direction.
(iii) On its northern side, extending its junction with Alexandra Road for a distance of approx. 23 metres in a south-westerly direction.
(iv) On its southern side, extending from a point approx. 7 metres west of the centre of Costin Street for a distance of approx. 6.5 metres in a westerly direction.
(v) On its southern side, extending from a point approx. 8.5 metres east of the centre of Costin Street for a distance of approx. 31 metres in an easterly direction.
(vi) On its southern side, extending from a point approx. 5 metres south-west of the centre of Western Street for a distance of approx. 18 metres in a south-westerly direction.
1. To introduce new “No waiting at any time” restrictions (double yellow lines) on the following length of road:
A Midland Road, Bedford
(i) On its northern side, extending from the eastern side of Rutland Road for a distance of approx. 3 metres in a north-easterly direction.
(ii) On its northern side, extending the centre of Brereton Road for a distance of approx. 6.5 metres in a south-westerly direction and approx. 6 metres in a north-easterly direction.
(iii) On its southern side, extending the centre of Battison Street for a distance of approx. 6.5 metres in a south-westerly direction and approx. 5.5 metres in a north-easterly direction.
(iv) On its southern side, extending the centre of Costin Street for a distance of approx. 7 metres in a westerly direction and approx. 8.5 metres in an easterly direction.
2. To introduce new “No waiting at any time” restrictions (double yellow lines) and “No Loading Mon-Sat 7.30-9.30am 4.00-6.00pm” restrictions (single kerb blips) on the following lengths of road:
A Midland Road, Bedford
(i) On its northern side, extending from a point approx. 6 metres north-east of the centre of Brereton Road for a distance of approx. 3.5 metres in a north-easterly direction.
(ii) On its northern side, extending in a south-westerly direction from a point approx. 6.5 metres south-west of the centre of Brereton Road to its junction with Alexandra Road.
(iii) On its southern side, extending from a point approx. 5.5 metres north-east of the centre of Battison Street for a distance of approx. 31 metres in a north-easterly direction.
(iv) On its southern side, extending from a point approx. 6.5 metres north-east of the centre of Western Street for a distance of approx. 9 metres in a north-easterly direction.
3. To introduce “Loading Only” bays on the following lengths of road:
A Midland Road, Bedford
(i) On its northern side, extending from a point approx. 37.5 metres west of the west side of Greyfriars for a distance of approx. 20 metres in a westerly direction.
(ii) On its southern side, extending from a point approx. 6.5 metres south-west of the centre of Battison Street for a distance of approx. 26.5 metres in a south-westerly direction.
Date of Operation This Order will come into force on 27th October 2025 or as soon as practicable after this date.

High Court Challenge: Any person who desires to question the validity of this Order or any provision contained therein on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act has not been complied with in relation to the Order may, within six weeks of the date of this Notice, make application for that purpose to the High Court.

(ii) On its north-western side, extending from the centre of Leasway for a distance of approx. 13 metres in both a north-easterly and south-westerly direction.

(i) On the inner kerb around the central island, extending from a point approx. 13 metres south-east of the centre of Hartshill (from the end of the existing ‘No waiting at any time’ restriction), in a south-easterly and continuing in a clockwise direction, then in a north-westerly direction, to a point approx. 10 metres south-east of the southeastern side of Hartshill (to the end of the existing ‘No waiting at any time’ restriction).
(ii) On its north-eastern side, extending from a point approx. 21.5 metres south-east of the projected boundary between nos. 14 and 16 Greenacres for a distance of approx. 8 metres in a south-easterly direction.

(i) On its north side, extending from a point approx. 16 metres west of the projected centre of Highfield Road for a distance of approx. 34 metres in an easterly direction.
