Dalton Square - Temporary Prohibition Of Through Traffic
What is happening?
THE LANCASHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL
(LANCASTER ON ICE EVENT, LANCASTER, LANCASTER CITY)
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF THROUGH TRAFFIC) (TEMPORARY ONE-WAY SUSPENSION) (TEMPORARY ONE WAY) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Lancashire County Council intend to make an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit any motor vehicle or cycle from proceeding over the following lengths of highway, in the city of Lancaster;
i. Dalton Square, from its junction with Friar Street, to its junction with A6 Great John Street.
ii. Dalton Square, from its junction with Friar Street, to its junction with Nelson Street.
Alternative routes for vehicular traffic and cyclists affected by the closure is via: -
i. Friar Street – Moor Lane – A6 Great John Street.
ii. Nelson Street – Bulk Street – Sulyard Street.
AND FURTHER, during the period of the closure, the existing one-way prohibitions on Sulyard Street from its junction with Dalton Square to its junction with Bulk Street will be temporarily suspended.
AND FURTHER, during the period of the closure, vehicles will be temporarily prohibited from traveling in an easterly direction on Sulyard Street from its junction with Dalton Square to Bulk Street.
Access for pedestrians will be always maintained.
The Police, Fire and Ambulance Services have been informed.
The temporary prohibition is necessary to enable the safe holding of Lancaster on Ice event 2025.
The prohibition will be operative from 1400 hours on Sunday 9th November 2025 until 1700 hours on Wednesday 21st January 2026.
