Carlisle, Temporary Prohibition Of All Traffic For Carlisle Southern Link Road Works

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (C1014 NEWBIGGIN ROAD, C1037 BURTHWAITE ROAD AND SCALEGATE ROAD, CARLISLE) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF ALL TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable works in relation to the Carlisle Southern Link Road to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to all traffic (i.e. vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists), from proceeding along the lengths of road specified in the attached Schedule.

Suitable diversion routes will be indicated on site by the display of relevant traffic signs as and when the temporary closures are in force.

The Order will come into operation on 11 November 2025 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required for 2 weeks, and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.

SCHEDULE

EXTENT OF RESTRICTIONS AND ALTERNATIVE ROUTES

1. C1014 Newbiggin Road, Carlisle

   From a point approx. 110m west of its junction with the C1037 Burthwaite Road, extending in an easterly direction for approx 1.13km.

   Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the C1014, C1041 Brisco Road, Brisco Road Roundabout, A689, Red Road Roundabout and the C1037 Burthwaite Road.

2. C1037 Scalegate Road, Carlisle

   From its junction with the C1014 Newbiggin Road, extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 2km.

   Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of the C1037 Scalegate Road, Ridley Road, C1036 Blackwell Road, Durdar Road and C1014 Newbiggin Road.

3. C1037 Burthwaite Road, Carlisle

   From its junction with the C1014 Newbiggin Road, extending in a southerly direction for approx. 100m.

   Alternative Routes: vehicles wishing to access Newbiggin Road should continue on the unrestricted section of the C1037 Burthwaite Road onto the C1014. Vehicles wishing to access Brisco Road should proceed via the unrestricted sections of the C1037 Burthwaite Road, A689 and the C1041 Brisco Road.
