Cargo, Carlisle - Consolidation Order and Speed Limit Changes

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL

(VARIOUS ROADS, CARLISLE & DISTRICT)

(CONSOLIDATION AND PROVISION OF SPEED LIMITS) ORDER 2025

1. Cumberland Council hereby give notice that on 21st October 2025 it made the above Order under Section 84 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

2. The Order will come into operation on 27th October 2025 and its effect will be to consolidate the provisions of The County of Cumbria (Various Roads, Carlisle City & District) (Consolidation and Provision of Speed Limits) (No. 9) Order 2023 and the following into one concise Order: -

(i) The introduction of a 40 mph speed limit on the C1016 Cargo, from its junction with the A689 at Kingmoor Road West Roundabout, extending in a north-westerly direction for a distance of approximately 560m; and

(ii) The introduction of a 50 mph speed limit on the C1016 Cargo, from a point 560m north-west of its junction with the A689 Kingmoor Road West Roundabout, extending in a north-westerly direction to a point approximately 1.76km north-west of its junction with the A689 at Kingmoor Road West Roundabout, a total distance of approximately 1.2km.

3. Full details of the Order, together with plans showing the lengths of road concerned, and a statement of the Council's reasons for making the Order, may be -

(iii) on deposit at the offices of the undersigned; and may otherwise be obtained by emailing TrafficTeam@cumberland.gov.uk.

4. If you wish to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or of any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order, you may within six weeks of 21st October 2025 apply to the High Court for this purpose.
