Stanley, Temporary Road Closures Due To Gas Works

What is happening?

The County Council of Durham

(Tees Crescent (Back), Tweed Terrace, Tweed Terrace (Back), Avon Road, Marx Crescent, Lenin Terrace and Keir Hardie Avenue, Stanley) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2025

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road.

Tees Crescent (Back) An 87 metre length to the rear of Numbers 1 to 19 Tweed Terrace and 2 to 20 Tees Crescent;

Tweed Terrace A 68 metre length from the side of Number 59/61 to the side of Number 68/70 Tweed Terrace.

Tweed Terrace (Back) A 426 metre length from the rear of Number 1 Avon Road/2 Tweed Terrace extending eastwards to the rear of Number 91 Avon Road/92 Tweed Terrace and a 42 metre length to the rear of Number 104 to 112 Wear Road.

Avon Road A 56 metre length of road from the junction with Marx Crescent to the front of the electric sub station;

Marx Crescent A 150 metre length of road to the rear of Number 1 to 31 Marx Crescent.

Lenin Terrace A 10 metre length to the front of Number 24 Lenin Terrace.

Keir Hardie Avenue A 23 metre length from the rear of Number 55 to 57 Lenin Terrace to enable gas main replacement works to be undertaken.

Throughout the period of closure, any local diversions for vehicular traffic will be signposted on site. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence from 8am on Monday 10/11/2025 and anticipated to be completed in 11 weeks. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
