High Street and City Road - Stopping Up of Highway to enable permitted development

What is happening?

NOTICE OF STOPPING UP ORDER MADE BY THE LONDON BOROUGH OF ISLINGTON PURSUANT TO SECTION 247 OF THE TOWN AND COUNTRY PLANNING ACT 1990

The London Borough of Islington hereby gives notice of an Order made under Section 247 of the above Act entitled “The London Borough of Islington (Stopping Up of Highway) (Islington High Street and City Road) Order 2025” authorising the stopping up of the following three areas of public highway which are shown zebra hatched black and marked with the letters “A”, “B” and “C” respectively on the Plan attached to the Order, to enable the development as permitted by the London Borough of Islington under reference P2022/0871/FUL:

Area A:

an area of highway located on Islington High Street 0.87 metres in length and 0.28 metres in width, terminal points from E = 531462.334 N = 183173.200

to E = 531462.319 N = 183172.332.

Area B:

an area of highway located on City Road 7.31 metres in length and 0.58 metres in width, terminal points from E = 531464.138 N = 183157.345

to E = 531471.353 N = 183153.834.

Area C:

an area of highway located on City Road 5.89 metres in length and 0.45m in width, terminal points from

E = 531485.516 N = 183148.183 to E = 531491.164 N = 183146.435.

Copies of the Order and Plan may be obtained, free of charge, from the London Borough of Islington, Legal Services, 222 Upper Street, London N1 1XR (marked for the attention of Laura Avery) or by email to planninglawteam@islington.gov.uk

quoting reference 9943156 or inspected during normal office hours (9am until 5pm) at the same address.

Any person aggrieved by or desiring to question the validity of or any provision within the Order, on the grounds that it is not within the powers of the Act or that any requirement or regulation made has not been complied with, may, within 6 weeks of 24 October 2025 apply to the High Court for the suspension or quashing of the Order or of any provision included.
