Barking, Experimental Prohibition Of Motor Vehicles

What is happening?

THE LONDON BOROUGH OF BARKING AND DAGENHAM

(Prohibition Of Motor Vehicles) (Bastable Avenue) Experimental Order 2025

Notice Is Hereby Given that the Council of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham in exercise of its powers under Sections 9, 10, 122 (1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended [hereinafter called "the Act") as amended by the relevant provisions of the Local Government Act 1985 the Parking Act 1989 and of all other enabling legislation and powers and after consultation with the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 of the Act made the above Orders.

The general effect of the Order will be as an experiment to:

1. Introduce a 'Prohibition of Motor Vehicles Mon - Friday 6:00am to 10:00am except for local buses or access' on Bastable Avenue at its junction with Renwick Road. Access will be permitted for all properties on Bastable Avenue and all adjoining roads between its junctions with Renwick Road and River Road including:

a. Alderman Avenue, Bastable Avenue, Charlton Crescent, Chelmer Crescent, Crouch Avenue, Curzon Crescent, Endeavour Way, Farr Avenue, Glenmore Way, Havering Way, Hockley Mews, Job Drain Place, Laurence Calvert Close, Leslie Foster Close, Maud Gardens, Maybury Road, Pompadour Way, Radford Way, Radford Way Car Park, Ray Gardens, Rowe Gardens, Roxwell Road, Roycraft Avenue, Samuel Ferguson Place, Stanley Avenue, Stebbing Way, Sugden Way, William Hope Close and Wivenhoe Road.

2. Revoke the existing 'Prescribed Route (No Motor Vehicles Mon - Friday 6:00am to 10:00am except local buses)' on Bastable Avenue at its junction with Renwick Road.

A copy of the Experimental Traffic Order, which will come into force on Monday 3rd November 2025, and a statement of the Council's reasons for making this experimental Order are available to view on the Councils website by visiting the following web page: https://www.lbbd.gov.uk/parking/parking-area, and selecting 'New and proposed traffic and parking schemes' or available for inspection at the: Adult Library, First Floor, Barking Learning Centre, Barking between the hours of 9.00am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday.

The Orders provides that in pursuance of section 10(2) of the Act, the specified officer may, if it appears essential in the interests of the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of traffic on the highway or for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which any road affected by the Orders runs, modify or suspend the Orders or any of its provisions.

The Orders are to be on an experimental basis for a maximum period of 18 months and the Council will be considering in due course whether the provisions of the Orders should be continued in force indefinitely by means of permanent Orders made under sections 6 and 124 of the Act, as amended.

Any person may object to the making of the permanent Orders for the purpose of such indefinite continuation within a period of six months beginning with the day on which the above-mentioned Orders came into operation or, if the Orders are varied by other Orders, beginning with the day on which the latest variation or modification came into operation. Any such objection must be made in writing and must state the grounds on which it is made and be sent for the attention of: Jacquie Harris to the address below or to www.lbbd.gov.uk/tmofeedback, quoting ref 10640 - Bastable Avenue. Any objection may be communicated to other persons who may be affected.
