London Borough of Southwark - Sumner Street and various roads - temporary prohibition of traffic
What is happening?
LONDON BOROUGH OF SOUTHWARK
ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 SECTION 14(1)
(SUMNER STREET, COLWELL ROAD, TREVERIS STREET, BEAR LANE, GILKES CRESCENT, RENFORTH STREET, TOWNLEY ROAD
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
1. The Council of the London Borough of Southwark hereby gives notice that to enable various works to be carried out, it made, an order, the effect of which will be to prohibit vehicular traffic from entering part of the above named roads.
2. Whilst the works are in progress, or whilst the authorised traffic signs/road markings are displayed, no person shall cause any vehicle to enter, proceed, stop, wait, load or unload at any time in:
(2a) Sumner Street, between Southwark Street and blue fin building
(2b) Colwell Road, between No’s 26 and No’s 28 located between Melbourne Grove and Playfield Crescent
(2c) Treveris Street, at its junction with Bear Lane
(2d) Bear Lane, at its junction with Treveris Street
(2e) Gilkes Crescent, at its junction with East Dulwich Grove
(2f) Renforth Street, between No’s 61 and its blocked end
(2g) Townley Road, between Carlton Avenue and Dovercourt Road
3. The alternative routes for affected traffic will be as indicated by the signs displayed
4. Sumner Street, will be made ‘two-way’ for access and egress purposes for item (2a)
5. Exemptions will be provided in the Order to permit reasonable access to premises, so far as it is practical without interference with the execution of the said works.
6. The restrictions will not apply to any vehicle being used in connection with the said works, or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes or anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform.
7. The closure will be in operation on the following dates (2a) 8th November, with back up dates of 15th November & 31st January 2026 & 7th February 2026 (2b) 10th – 18th November (2c) & (2d) 10th – 25th November (2e) 10th November – 5th December (2f) 13th – 14th November (2g) 13th – 15th November
