ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 –
SECTION 14
THE A1 TRUNK ROAD (FIFE PLANT
JUNCTION) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A1 Trunk Road, in the County of
Northumberland, to enable loop cutting works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start at 8pm on Wednesday 19 November 2025 for 1 night, or until completed, and will take place between 8pm and 6am.
The effect of the order will be, at times during the works, to:
(i) impose a 40mph speed restriction on the A1 northbound carriageway from 321 metres north of Fife Plant Junction to 3940 metres north of Fife Plant Junction, a distance of
3619 metres;
(ii) impose a 10mph speed restriction on the A1 northbound carriageway from 3250 metres north of Fife Plant Junction to 3940 metres north of Fife Plant Junction, a distance of 690 metres. The 10mph limit will only apply when, for safety reasons, traffic has to be escorted through the works by a highway maintenance vehicle; and
(iii) close the layby adjacent to the A1 northbound carriageway approximately 3480 metres north of Fife Plant Junction. Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 18 November 2025 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
