York – Multiple Traffic Notices, Temporary Road Closures due to Maintenance and Infrastructure Works
What is happening?
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Thursday, 23 October 2025 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6) (7) & (8). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (9), (10), (11), (12), (13), (14), (15), (16) & (17).
(1) PUBLIC FOOTPATH NO 1/2/20, COPMANTHORPE
This Order prohibits vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of public right of way on Public Footpath No 1/2/20, Copmanthorpe between its junction with Fletcher's Croft and Hodgson's Close and a location approximately 15 metres east of the East Coast Mainline Railway (closed public right of way) during the period when railway engineering works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Friday, 24 October 2025 and ending at 0700hrs on Monday, 10 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier.
This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the route will only be closed during the following periods only: 24/10/25 – 27/10/25; 31/10/25 – 03/11/25 and 07/11/25 – 10/11/25. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.
(2) MILLFIELD LANE LEVEL CROSSING, POPPLETON
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding through that length of road at Millfield Lane Level Crossing, Poppleton (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0100hrs on Saturday, 25 October 2025 and ending at 0515hrs on Monday, 27 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period. Vehicles will be allowed to use the bus gate between Millfield Lane and Low Poppleton Lane, for ingress and egress, without risk of enforcement action, for the works duration only.
(3) OUTGANG LANE, OSBALDWICK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Outgang Lane, Osbaldwick between locations 47 metres and 116 metres northwest of its junction with Murton Way (closed road) during the period when highway surfacing works are being undertaken thereon commencing at 2200hrs on Saturday, 25 October 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Sunday, 26 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained at all times.
(4) PRINCIPAL RISE (ENTRANCE ROAD TO YORK CRAFT), YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of carriageway on Principal Rise (entrance road to York Craft), York between its junction with Tadcaster Road and a location 15 metres west of said junction (closed carriageway) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1700hrs on Sunday, 26 October 2025 and ending at 2300hrs on Sunday, 26 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the said works have been completed whichever is the earlier.
This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, the ‘ONE WAY’ direction of travel in Principal Rise between its junction with the entrance road to Craft York and a location 30 metres north-east of said junction is reversed to allow vehicles to travel in a south-westerly direction when the closure is put into effect. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via College Court.
(5) ALBEMARLE ROAD, SCARCROFT HILL & TELFORD TERRACE, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Albemarle Road, York (i) on Albemarle Road between its junctions with Brunswick Street and The Mount and (ii) on Scarcroft Hill between its junction with Albemarle Road and a location 35 metres north-east of said junction and (iii) on Telford Terrace between its junction with Albemarle Road and a location 30 metres east of said junction (closed roads) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 27 October 2025 and ending at 1700hrs on Tuesday, 04 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Scarcroft Road, Campleshon Road, Bishopthorpe Road. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(6) ST. THOMAS CLOSE, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on St. Thomas Close, York between its junction with Thirkley Way and a location 53 metres south-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when power grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 27 October 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 07 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1730hrs each day of the works period. Access for residents and emergency vehicles will be maintained.
(7) HAWTHORN GROVE, GLEN ROAD & HAWTHORN STREET, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on (i) Hawthorn Grove, Glen Road & Hawthorn Street, York (i) from the north-eastern carriageway of Hawthorn Grove via Hawthorn Street and Glen Road and (ii) from Hawthorn Street into Hawthorn Grove and (iii) from Glen Road into Hawthorn Grove (restricted roads) during the period when gas network works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 27 October 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 07 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Eboracum Way, Heworth Green, Mill Street.
(8) ANTHEA DRIVE, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Anthea Drive, York between its junctions with New Lane and Sherwood Grove (closed road) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 27 October 2025 and ending at 1630hrs on Friday, 21 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1800hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via New Road, Highthorn Road, Maythorn Road.
(9) FOOTPATH FROM BELLFARM AVENUE TO ROCHE AVENUE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of footpath on Footpath from Bellfarm Avenue to Roche Avenue, York between property No’s 15 & 17 Bellfarm Avenue from its junction with Bellfarm Avenue to its junction with Roche Avenue (closed footpath) during the period when building works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Saturday, 01 November 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Tuesday, 31 March 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians will be signed during the works period via Bellfarm Avenue, Roche Avenue.
(10) TANNERS MOAT, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Tanners Moat, York between the projected south-western boundary of Aviva UK and its junction with Rougier Street (closed road) during the period when crane works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0600hrs on Sunday, 02 November 2025 and ending at 1300hrs on Sunday, 02 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles and pedestrians will be signed during the works period. Access to premises within the closed section will be maintained throughout the works period with assistance from site staff.
(11) JOCKEY LANE & MONKS CROSS DRIVE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Jockey Lane & Monks Cross Drive, York (i) on Jockey Lane, York between its roundabout controlled junctions with Malton Road and Monks Cross Drive and (ii) on Monks Cross Drive between its junction at Controlled junction with Jockey Lane and Monks Cross Link (closed roads) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Monday, 03 November 2025 and ending at 0500hrs on Thursday, 13 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the roads will only be closed between 2000hrs and 0500hrs each night of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Malton Road and A1237 York Outer Ring Road. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(12) FOSS ISLANDS LINK ROAD, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Foss Islands Link Road, York between its roundabout controlled junction with the access to Foss Islands Retail Park and a location 88 metres east of said junction (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0730hrs on Monday, 03 November 2025 and ending at 1600hrs on Friday, 07 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0730hrs and 1600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via James Street, Layerthorpe, Foss Islands Road. Access to the Morrisons and Foss Islands Retail Park will be maintained throughout the works period.
(13) COMMON ROAD, DUNNINGTON
This Order will prohibit vehicles from performing a left hand turn from that length of road on Common Road, Dunnington into York Street, Dunnington (restricted manoeuvre) during the period when gas works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 03 November 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 14 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Hull Road (A1079), Stamford Bridge Road (A166).
(14) HULL ROAD & ELVINGTON LANE, DUNNINGTON
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Hull Road & Elvington Lane, Dunnington (i) on Hull Road between its junction with Bore Tree Baulk and the roundabout controlled junction with the A64 (Grimston Bar) and (ii) on Elvington Lane between its junction with Hull Road and a location 47 metres south-east of said junction (closed roads) during the period when National Highways maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Monday, 03 November 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Tuesday, 04 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Shiptonthorpe, Holme upon Spalding Moor, Bubwith, Barlby, Crockey Hill. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
(15) FOSSWAY, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Fossway, York between locations 15 metres and 298 metres east of its junction with Pottery Lane (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 03 November 2025 and ending at 1600hrs on Wednesday, 05 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period.
(16) YORK SEISMIC SURVEY, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road set out in the schedule below (closed roads) during the period when survey works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0730hrs on Wednesday, 05 November 2025 and ending at 1730hrs on Wednesday, 12 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Stamford Bridge Road, York between its junction with Bore Tree Balk and its roundabout controlled junction with the A64 (Grimston Bar) (closed road) during the period when National Highways maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Thursday, 06 November 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Friday, 07 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Stamford Bridge, Wetwang, Driffield, Shiptonthorpe, A1079. Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.
The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not otherwise used during the works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
