Carlisle, Temporary Road & Footpath Closures For Carlisle Fire Show

What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS IN THE CITY OF CARLISLE)

(TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2025 AND CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (VARIOUS FOOTPATHS IN THE CITY OF CARLISLE) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS) ORDER 2025 AND CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (VARIOUS FOOTPATHS/CYCLETRACKS IN THE CITY OF CARLISLE) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLISTS) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable Cumberland Council to stage the Carlisle Fire Show in a safe manner, Cumberland Council intends to make Orders the effect of which is to:-

  1. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the lengths of road specified in Schedule 1 hereto; and
  2. Prohibit any pedestrian from proceeding along the lengths of footpath specified in Schedule 2 hereto; and
  3. Prohibit any pedestrian and/or cyclist from proceeding along the lengths of footpath/cycletrack specified in Schedule 3 hereto; and
  4. Prohibit any vehicle from waiting at any time, on any day or from loading/unloading at any time, on any day, along that section of West Tower Street, which extends for approx. 41m in a westerly direction from a point approx. 12m to the west of the junction with Market Street. A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists in respect of the road restrictions detailed in Schedule 1 hereto, will be maintained at all times. Vehicles will be required to find alternative routes using the surrounding roads around Carlisle, as appropriate. N.B. (i) Motor Vehicles which currently use Footpath No. 109081 (Mayor’s Drive) and Footpath No. 109077 (Sheepmount) , as referred to at item 1 of Schedule 3 and item 5 of Schedule 2, are also prohibited for the duration of Carlisle Fire Show (ii) Pedestrians using the Hadrian’s Wall Path National Trail along Footpath Nos.109083, 109081, across the Sheepmount Bridge and Footpath No. 109077 will be able to do so, but only at the times deemed safe to do so by the event marshal(s) and whilst accompanied by an event marshal(s). The Temporary Traffic Regulation Order may continue in force for a maximum period of up to eighteen months. The Temporary Prohibition of Pedestrians Order and the Temporary Prohibition of Pedestrians and Cyclists Orders may continue in force for a maximum period of up to six months. However, all Orders will come into operation on 1 November 2025, and it is anticipated that they will only be required at the times stated in the schedules on 1 November 2025, or until normal traffic operation can be resumed at the direction of a police constable or event marshal, as appropriate, whichever is the sooner, and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed: Chief Legal Officer, Cumberland Council, Cumbria House, 117 Botchergate, Carlisle CA1 1RD

SCHEDULE 1 EXTENT AND TIMES OF ROAD CLOSURES IN CARLISLE CITY

  1. A595 Bridge Street (City Centre/North East Bound Lane only) – From the junction with Bridge Lane and Shaddongate extending along Bridge Street to the junction with Devonshire Walk and Bridge Street/Castle Way. Duration for 1 above: From 1800 to 2230 hours on Saturday 1 November 2025
  2. A595 Castle Way and Bridge Street (Both Lanes/Directions); (i) Castle Way, from its junction Hardwicke Circus to a point where it joins Bridge Street; and (ii) Bridge Street, from a point where it meets Castle Way to its junction with Shaddongate.
  3. West Tower Street Slip Road onto the A595 (West) – From its junction with Market Street to its junction with the A595 Castle Way.
  4. West Tower Street Slip Road from the A595 (to City Centre) - From its junction with the A595 Castle Way extending to its junction with Market Street.
  5. West Tower Street – From its junction with Peter Street extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 120m. Duration for 2 to 5 above : From 1930 to 2030 hours on Saturday 1 November 2025
  6. Devonshire Walk - From its junction with Castle Way to its junction with Mayor’s Drive.
  7. Dacre Road – From its junction with Mayor’s Drive extending in an overall south easterly direction for its entire length. Duration for 6 and 7 above: From 0001 to 2359 hours on Saturday 1 November 2025

SCHEDULE 2 - EXTENT AND TIMES OF FOOTPATH CLOSURES

  1. Footpath No. 109082 in the City of Carlisle – From its junction with Footpath No. 109083 extending in a north easterly, then south easterly direction for a total distance of approx. 270m
  2. Footpath No. 109085 in the City of Carlisle – For its entire length, from its junction with Dacre Road to its junction with Devonshire Walk.
  3. Footpath 109078 in the City of Carlisle – From its junction with Footpath No. 109081 (Mayor’s Drive) and Footpath No.109077 (Sheepmount) extending in a south westerly direction for approx. 65m.
  4. Footpath 109086 in the City of Carlisle – For its entire length, from its junction with Devonshire Walk/Dacre Road to junction with Footpath No. 109085
  5. Footpath No. 109077 in the City of Carlisle (Sheepmount) – From its junction with Footpath No.109081 (Mayor’s Drive) and Footpath No.109078 extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 120m. Duration for 1 to 4 above: From 0001 to 2359 hours on Saturday 1 November 2025

SCHEDULE 3 - EXTENT AND TIMES OF FOOTPATH/CYCLETRACK CLOSURES

  1. Footpath No.109081 in the City of Carlisle (Mayor’s Drive) – For its entire length, from its junction with Devonshire Walk/Dacre Road to junction with Footpath Nos: 109077 and 109078 at the Sheepmount.
  2. Footpath No. 109083 in the City of Carlisle – from its junction with Footpath No. 109081 (Mayor’s Drive) extending in a south easterly direction for approx.110m. Duration for 1 to 3 above: From 0001 to 2359 hours on Saturday 1 November 2025
