What is happening?
ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14(1)(a)
THE A46 TRUNK ROAD (COLD ASHTON TO BATHAMPTON) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (a) has made an Order on the A46 trunk road in Bath and North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire to allow embankment stabilisation and associated maintenance works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to take place commencing on or after 31 October 2025 and be completed by 6 November 2025.
The effect of the Order will be:
(a) to authorise the overnight (20.00 to 06.00) closure of:
(i) the A46 northbound and southbound between Cold Ashton Roundabout and London Road Roundabout;
(ii) the A46 northbound entry slip road at London Road Roundabout;
(b) authorise the operation of a contraflow on the A46 between 265 metres and 1200 metres north of the junction with Gloucester Road;
(c) prohibit overtaking on the length of the A46 given at
(b) above;
(d) authorise the closure of the layby located 265 metres north of the junction with Swainswick Lane.
During the closures, traffic will be diverted via junctions of the A46 and local roads.
Access to and from premises that are accessible from and only from the A46 will be maintained during the works.
The closures (which will not apply to emergency service, traffic officer or works vehicles) speed limits, and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the works.
The Order will come into force on 29 October 2025 and have a maximum duration of 18 months.
