Cycle Track / Footpath No 223022 Temporary Prohibition of Vehicles
What is happening?
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (A5086 GOTE BRIDGE, COCKERMOUTH) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2025
AND
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (CYCLETRACK/FOOTPATH NO. 223022 IN THE PARISH OF COCKERMOUTH AT MEMORIAL GARDENS AND MILLERS (HARRIS) FOOTBRIDGE/CYCLETRACK, COCKERMOUTH) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLISTS) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable Cockermouth Town Council to stage the annual Cockermouth Fire Show in a safe manner, Cumberland Council intends to make Orders the effect of which is to:
Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along that section of the A5086 Gote Bridge, Cockermouth, from its junction with Wakefield Road, extending in a southerly direction for approx. 11m to its junction with Crown Street.
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times and a suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available via the unrestricted section of the A5086, Gote Brow, A595, A66 and A5086 Lamplugh Road, The Level, Gallowbarrow, Sullart Street and Crown Street.
Prohibit pedestrians and cyclists from proceeding along the entire expanse of Millers (Harris) Footbridge/Cycletrack; and
Prohibit pedestrians and cyclists from proceeding along that section of Cycletrack/Footpath No. 223022 at Memorial Gardens, Cockermouth from a point where it joins Millers (Harris) Footbridge/Cycletrack extending in a northerly direction to its junction with Wakefield Road.
A suitable alternative route for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be signed and available via the footways of Bridge Street, Main Street, Crown Street, Gote Bridge and Wakefield Road.

The Orders will come into operation on 2 November 2025.
The Temporary Traffic Regulation Order may continue in force for a maximum period of up to eighteen months and the Temporary Prohibition of Pedestrians and Cyclists Order may continue in force for a maximum period of up to six months.
However, it is anticipated that both will only be required between 1700 and 1900 hours, whilst the Cockermouth Fire Show takes place, and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed:
