What is happening?
CENTRAL BEDFORDSHIRE COUNCIL PROPOSES TO INSTALL
TRAFFIC CALMING MEASURES ON VANDYKE ROAD,
LEIGHTON BUZZARD
Notice is hereby given that Central Bedfordshire Council, in exercise of its powers under Section 90 A-I of the Highways Act 1980 and all other enabling powers, propose to construct two pairs of Speed Cushions on Vandyke Road. These proposals are part of a package of works to reduce traffic speeds and create a safer environment for all road users.
To introduce a Raised Table, at a nominal height of 75mm and length of approximately 6 metres, excluding ramps and extending across the full width of the road is proposed to be sited at the following location in Leighton Buzzard:
1. Vandyke Road, centred at a point approximately 25 metres southwest of the southern kerb line of the junction with Vandyke Road Service Road.
To introduce a Speed Cushion, at a nominal height of 75mm, a length of approximately 6 metres excluding ramps and a minimum width of 4.5 metres are proposed to be sited at the following location in Leighton Buzzard:
2. Vandyke Road, centred at a point approximately 75 metres northeast of the southern kerb line of the junction with Vandyke Road Service Road.

THE 20MPH SPEED ZONE ONTO VANDYKE ROAD, GEORGE STREET AND
REGENT STREET, LEIGHTON BUZZARD
Reason for proposal: The proposed Speed Zone extension forms part of a targeted road safety initiative developed in response to concerns raised by local residents through a formal petition. The proposed speed limit reduction is designed to enhance safety for all road users, particularly pedestrians and cyclists, and is being introduced alongside complementary traffic calming measures - including physical interventions such as speed cushions - to reduce vehicle speeds and improve the overall environment of the area.
Effect of the Order:
To extend the 20mph Speed Zone on the following lengths of road in Leighton Buzzard:-
1. Vandyke Road, from its junction with Beaudesert and extending in a north easterly direction for approximately 1083 metres, ending at a point approximately 140 metres northeast of the centre of the junction with Meadway.
2. Vandyke Road Service Road, for its full length.
3. George Street, for its full length.
4. Regent Street, for its full length.
